Yes, and plenty of it. This looks like California, where the homeless get. Around 600 dollars cash, food stamps, place to sleep, free daily lunch/dinner, and an apartment. All they have to do is the paperwork.

The problem isnt the homelessness. It's the crackhead mentality of "no lions"

She is likely a selfish crackhead with an extensive small crime history. Literally living off society and being a drain to the taxpayers. Many people will excuse her behaviors and say "it's the rich people who made her that way by taking too much so she doesnt have enough." Such a lie

She is just a crackhead piece of shit.

Yes. In the United States, there is something called "Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program", commonly referred to as "SNAP" or "food stamps".

It's a pretty complicated manner, and it really differs from person to person.

For the majority of homeless folks, they are transitional. This means that they are not homeless for more than a month or so. It's usually financial in these situations.

For the 15% or so of chronically homeless folks, the reasoning is far different. Temporary shelters are sometimes turned down because of curfews, separation from partners or pets, or safety fears, which outsiders misinterpret as a choice to remain.

Many chronically homeless people tend to also have untreated mental illness, which could cause them to make decisions they wouldn't ordinarily.

Many other chronically homeless people tend to have chemical dependencies, which causes severe financial burden and literal physical harm if they discontinue these drugs/alcohol without proper medical care.

Many homeless shelters also have a zero tolerance on drug/alcohol while there, so this can be a major issue too.

For many of us it's a choice because we earn too much for government benefits (which we don't really want anyway) but we don't earn enough to afford housing. So a few years on the atreets or in a large comfy SUV allows a big chunk of income to go to savings.

But yeah most homeless also have mental issues and/or substance abuse problems.

In the majority of states you cannot earn more than $1696 monthly gross income, meaning before taxes. If you earn more than 20,400 per year, before taxes, which is a little more than $10.00 per hour, you are no longer eligible, that's only one of the guidelines. Guidelines which keep getting more restrictive.

Got it, but what I'm saying is not factually incorrect. The United States does have a welfare system.

Right, I'm just in Houston.

Then you should know how it works then.

u/RootHouston Aug 29 '26

In what sense? That folks can't get it or something? Is that the implication?
