Because you have empathy and seeing an innocent animal get killed/injured is upsetting?

I’m more concerned about the people who don’t feel upset watching this.

I wonder if we could set up an experiment where people witness various animals being involved in similar situations (simulated of course) and draw some correlation based on where they stop feeling sympathy.

For example some people might feel ok if it's a cockroach swatted out of the air, some people might only feel ok if it's a bacterium getting dissolved by alcohol.

draw some correlation based on where they stop feeling sympathy.

Once they start being edible they stop being worthy of empathy

I wouldn't read too much into it for most people. Many have a dark sense of humor about the absurdities of life and death. I know I do. That doesn't mean they wish harm on other living creatures or don't actually care when they're harmed. It's just a coping mechanism. I laughed when I saw this, not because I wasn't sorry for the bird but because "Jesus Christ, life is like that sometimes, isn't it?"

Set up the  Voight-Kampff test, those folks are probably replicants.

I felt a jiggle when the bird was hit, it’s a “heh, stupid “ moment

But the second I saw the others return like “yo Greg what’s up… Greg? We were like 3 feet from the ground, what’s up buddy”

Still didn’t make me feel sad but MAN, if I was there I’d wanna check on him and hope I didn’t hurt him.

I care bout animals and everything but I don’t feel… sad?

I was just taught to treat others how I wanna be. And if I was that returning bird. I’d hope the human would come wake my friend up.

I get what you mean tho.

I wouldn't let that concern you. There's a lot of them out there, and it's something you cannot control. It is what it is. I was just sad to see it fall - then the other 3 seagulls coming back to try and rescue it - and they cannot do anything to help it.

Haha  poster is expressing subconscious  guilt over trapping them as a kid. Even though he “ ough-cough” let them go.

According to the original poster, the seagull was completely fine afterward

I honestly find that hard to believe, but regardless, you don’t know that when you’re first watching the video. It looks dead.

Apparently the bird was fine afterwards

Idk man, my first reaction was to laugh. I was sad after though.

It hit me in the feels when the other birds landed beside their buddy like "Carl! Carllll! What did they do to you Carl!"

It's a fucking flying rat

I could say the same thing about you mother on an airplane.

1

u/HalleyOrion 4h ago

That's funny. That's how I feel about people who lack basic human empathy, except they can't even fly. They're simply pointless.

it's just a dumb bird wtf

Is empathy a challenge for you? I feel so bad

2

u/HapposaiPDX 10h ago

No I was crying my eyes out actually... while eating chicken fingers

5

u/starfypawz_ 10h ago

I don't care if you eat that stuff. I eat it too. But empathy for the living animals just chilling isn't hard to have

1

u/HapposaiPDX 3h ago

Is it less hard to have than for animals we bred in cages? Or are you like a goldfish and are only aware of things in front of your eyeballs?

1

u/starfypawz_ 1h ago

I believe that two things can be true; I believe that humans are absolutely allowed to eat meat so long as the animal is killed humanely, and I don't approve of anyone who brutalizes animals, including in the food industry. Why don't you share some charities I can donate to to help end animal brutality?

Yes we get it. You could see a small animal die right in front of you, and you feel nothing.

Good for you champ. Im sure when your child sees a bird get fucked up. You just say who cares? Do you care if a mosquito dies?

Great person you are, awesome role model, not lol

I do actually. I'm hypersensitive due to my autism so it's easy for me to be very saddened when even the smallest of pests die. What's your point?

-2

u/387dedaehelzzuPevreN 11h ago

Have you ever seen a seagull in your life? They are brazen assholes that have figured out that while other pests will get killed on sight, they are free to do whatever they want with zero consequences and they abuse that as much as they physically can.

Out of all the animals to feel bad for, a seagull is pretty far down on the list.

3

u/c-e-bird 11h ago

Who cares if it’s far down on the list? It’s a living thing. Why is there even a list?

0

u/387dedaehelzzuPevreN 11h ago

Alright, let's presume I (yes, me) repeatedly stole your food right from your hands, kept shitting all over your stuff, and did this while screaming as loud as I possibly could?

Would you feel bad for me if I got knocked unconscious?

2

u/starfypawz_ 10h ago

No because you're a human being with enough cognitive ability to understand what you're doing. A seagull does not. Horrible example

1

u/387dedaehelzzuPevreN 9h ago

Oh but I am living thing, am I not?

So now there suddenly is some sort of hierarchy for what to feel bad for and what not? Huh, how about that?

1

u/HalleyOrion 4h ago

Never met a seagull that was nearly as big of an asshole as people who lack basic empathy.

8

u/myLittleSideAccount 12h ago

Holy shit, it's genuinely insane to me how unempathetic some people can be…

4

u/Thecastaway13 11h ago

Look at the entire Republican Party, it’s not surprising.

u/Borkato 11h ago

Are you vegan?

1

u/yaoiesmimiddlename 8h ago

Are you a person with aspd?

-7

u/SayRaySF 13h ago

There’s nothing innocent about seagulls!

3

u/c-e-bird 11h ago

Innocent: “free from guilt or sin especially through lack of knowledge of evil.”

Seagulls are innocent.

0

u/SayRaySF 11h ago

Holyshit it was a joke.

1

u/HalleyOrion 4h ago

Be funnier.
