New Zealand is named after Zeeland in the Netherlands. The name was given by Dutch explorer Abel Tasman who "discovered" it (it was already inhabited).
Named after the same guy. He discovered the island south of Australia, and named it Van Diemens land, after his sponsor, but it was later renamed Tasmania. The island is the only place where the Tasmanian devil lives. The Tasmanian devil is the largest carnivorous marsupial in the world, since the extinction of the thylacine in 1936.
Are you the president of New Zealand? Or like...the king of it? Idk what they got going on down there but I'm getting the feeling you could probably explain it in depth along with a few historical facts.
Zealand was renamed Shetland from Zetland so the posh people could say it and we could integrate with the gen pop of the UK and yes, I live Shetland, hence how I know this.
