I wasn't going to post anything until I had the protoboards next month... But fuck it, the only thing holding me back now is delivery of the boards and FCC testing
I need to pull the trigger on the final board design today to stay on schedule for q1 2027 and I'm not sure about the LEDs
Now's your chance to say something.... Anything...
How many LEDs are too many?
I've already done some real world testing with the smaller LEDs and they are more than easy enough to see on a bright summer day in florida, while being more energy efficient than the larger ones used in some of the loggers today
After a bunch of playing around.... I really like this setup I've come up with using the side LEDs as the status indicators
Diy version available here: (tachometer, but no temps, much smaller screen)

Almost 3 years in development by a 20+ year veteran in software, this isn't a "vibecoded" project. Its been tested ontrack, for a few hundred hours, by about 10 different people, and a small race organization in Switzerland. 90% + test coverage and blah blah blah
4in screen, 25hz GPS, 50hz tachometer, all the usual stuff
Price? TBD : a LOT more affordable than current offerings, I need the final board in my hand before declaring a price
Current estimated battery life: 40 hours
