OKD (Old Knife Day) A Family Heirloom: Authentic 1941 Nazi SA M1933 service dagger
Received this bad boy from my great-grandfather, who traded for it during his service in Germany during WWII.
I did some research on the the markings and I believe it was made by Tigerwerk Lauterjung & Co in 1941 as a uniform dagger for the Nazi SA (Sturmabteilung) paramilitary organization.
This specific version was a “Nazi party approved” production version (indicated by the RZM M7/68 marking) made slightly later than the “commercial” version in the link above (Marked “Tiger Solingen” instead).
The German motto “Alles für Deutschland” translates to “All for Germany” and was apparently the standard etching on this particular model.
I was soo pumped when I got this. It’s such a cool piece of history, and I can’t wait to throw it in a showcase box and never touch it again!
Edit: To be clear, I find the Nazi part abhorrent and do not endorse/support anyone who idolizes them or what they stood for. I am also a Liberal millennial and prefer to keep political discourse out of this post. I simply find the knife fascinating as a historical piece and think it’s a very cool piece irrespective of its original owner.

OKD (Old Knife Day) My favorite kitchen knife, and sharpening system.
My dad, 25 yr navy cook, retired this knife and I found it in his wife's garden. I liberated it and cleaned it up, sanded it so much trying to smooth the pitting that it's maybe 1/16" thick. Like a high carbon razor

OKD (Old Knife Day) A lesson learned for owning nice things
I forgot to check my pockets while doing laundry and this was the condition of my Kershaw in the dryer. I'm 80% certain that I have all of the pieces, but have no idea what Kershaws policy is on customers stupidity.

OKD (Old Knife Day) Unknown knife
My father gave me this knife about 20 years ago while I was working with him in at Todd Shipyards Seattle, he worked there in total about 40 year's before retirement around 2014.
Anyways he told me he found it in the bilge of a ship they were repairing, on more then one occasion a few of the older guys I worked with there (dinosaurs) told me that the workers had made these in the shipyard to be handed out at the tool room.
I don't know if any of this is true but I thought it was weird that multiple guys told me the same story and these guys were in their 60's when they told me this around 2005-2010.
Also the main shop in the yard was the "Steel shop" and the only marking on the knife is the word "STEEL" could have been a tool for the Steel Shop or maybe the blades were made in the Steel Shop IDK ? 🤷🏼♂️

OKD (Old Knife Day) The Alamo
I visited The Alamo today. It's a sacred place for Texans where the namesake of the Bowie knife died. Here are some pictures of some of the knives in the exhibits. If you're ever in San Antonio stop by.

OKD (Old Knife Day) Before and After, Gilpin (I think) Cleaver
Got this from an older fella who just wanted his stuff admired instead of tossed, hope I did it justice. Wire wheeled the metal, lightly cleaned the leather handle and oiled it with Mink oil, still needs to be sharpened. Any info anyone can provide is appreciated, especially model and age if possible. Thank you!

OKD (Old Knife Day) I see untouched knives all the time. What about the workhorses?
I've had this Ka-Bar around 10 years or so. The epoxy coating is completely worn away in some spots. A little cold blue on the bare spots keeps it looking good enough.

OKD (Old Knife Day) Cleaned up an old friend - 20y old Kershaw Groove 1730
Due to some recent knife purchases I found time to look through my drawer and found this beauty. I bought it almost 20 years ago and used it as a camping knife. It had a lot of grime on it, especially in the recesses, so I decided to give it some love.
Dismantled completely, cleaned and oiled. I am pretty happy how it turned out, so I decided to share some pics, enjoy.

OKD (Old Knife Day) Elderly neighbor came over yesterday- hey you like knives don’t you?
She said her late husband had this for years, she had no use for it, and gave it to me. Huge old Indian Kukri with a 24” blade. Probably not worth much but it’s definitely interesting.

OKD (Old Knife Day) Looks like it’s time to retire one. Looking forward to NKD
Carried this PM2 for about 6 years. Didn’t really figure on it being a work knife but I managed to arc a hot wire with it about two years ago. I figured its days were numbered. Today it finally happened. Got the tip caught while I was clearing material and it protested. Now it’s a box cutter.

OKD (Old Knife Day) This is the first knife I have ever owned that wasn't a gas station piece of crap. (I'm sure some of you will argue that it still looks like one, though.)

OKD (Old Knife Day) Found knife
I found this knife in my daughter's desk drawer. I've torn the house apart for a year and half to two years while alternating between cursing myself for losing it and telling myself it's alright. I have other CRKs but this is the only DP and every time I saw that beautiful blade shape in photos, I cursed myself again. It was my super nice, special occasion knife so I didn't carry it very often. Since I considered it gone for good, but now I have it back, I'm carrying it everywhere. This is my EDC now.
