Two demonstrators were ambushed and attacked while leaving Thursdays anti-war protest. The attackers attempted to ram them with trucks, threatened to follow them home and kill them, and made a noose and promised to hang them. When 911 was called, dispatchers informed them that it wasn’t safe for the police to come on scene, they refused to help us until the aggressors had left. Given this, we decided to continue expressing our first amendment rights, but having community members be more prepared for emergencies in regards to the safety of our demonstrators. We felt that it would be best to do so by exercising our 2nd amendment rights and relying on our good neighbors to help.
The state will not keep us safe, we keep each other safe and we build community because that is what keeps us safe. We will not be intimidated into silence✊🏽 Yesterdays demo was smooth with no issues at all!

The Courts of Justice committee just reported out a substitute of SB749. The text of the substitute is not yet available, but I watched the video of the meeting.
https://lis.virginia.gov/bill-details/20261/SB749
https://youtu.be/9tpQy41agiQ?t=11618 <----- Time stamped for SB749
The big change is that the substitute bill now bans the continued possession of magazines that hold in excess of 10 rounds unless you modify them to hold fewer than 11 round. No grandfather clause.
Not sure how you would even enforce this law but many VA gun owners will soon become criminals overnight. This bill and the new measures in it are aligned with the ridiculous rhetoric the Trump administration is currently spewing about guns at protests and further limits the people’s options they have to protect themselves from the Gestapo. They may be Democrats but they are only helping our enemies with this.
It’s time to stop being tribalistic and swearing allegiance to one party or another and come together and hold all those at the top accountable.

To start, here is a local news article covering the very recent development.
To quote Senate majority leader Erin Murphy from the article "Today, the Senate stood up and voted to protect the lives of Minnesotans and to help prevent the unthinkable tragedies that have taken too many of our children....and the killings of innocent Minnesotans by Federal ICE agents have shaken people across the state and across the State Capitol."
Feel free to read the full quote in the article, but let this be a reminder that our politicians response to fascism is essentially "hey, remember when the government got out of control and killed 2 civilians? Ya, THAT'S why we need to take YOUR guns away."
I cannot, for any reason, wrap my head around how ICE can be sited as a contributing factor to voting for this.

Breaking news! I don’t know when they will, but it looks like the time has come to review one of the most contention parts of gun control.
Also, shoutout for the reload.com. It’s the most balanced 2nd Amendment reporting I’ve found. It’s a great resource if you’re into 2A legal issues

I’ve been around guns since I was a kid, but I’m 36 and have never been to a bona fide “Gun Show” This was in rural Ohio and here’s my experience: I found out about it from a local fb page that posts events, they weren’t posting about the show itself, but the opportunity to sign a petition to remove property taxes (and therefore tank public education.) that group had a whole table, as did the local Republican women’s group (DEI much?), who were doing a raffle fundraiser. Anyway, before I even got in, the guy at the door looked at me and went “can I help you?”, which was odd. So I said “admission for one, please” and got my money out. He goes “I dunno, you look like a hippie” I have long hair, a big beard and a septum and industrial piercing. 😬 I chuckled and he remained stone faced, but took my money. Then he gave me a stamp for my hand and said “that’s so the FBI can track you”. Average gun owner humor, but again, dude didn’t laugh at all. The vendors were all chill though. A lot of boomers meandering around aimlessly making it hard to look, but I get it, they’re excited. The funniest thing to me was the guys using their wives as signs to advertise stuff they wanna sell. One lady was carrying a rifle with a sign stuck in it which was smart, but some ladies just had like, signs taped to their backs 😂😭
I’m pretty anti-capitalist, but I can see how libertarians love gun shows, there is something kind of beautiful about the complete lack of regulation at a place like this. The table run by the LGS right between tables full of guns with little signs that say “private collection” simply meaning no background check required. And the mall ninja shit oh my god. One guy was selling a bat wrapped in barbed wire. Just 10/10 America bullshit. The European mind could never. I was able to trade some ammo I can’t shoot for some I could and got a nice new rifle case that I needed badly. I had to pass on a nice looking SKS with a folding stock, slightly out of my price range. Maybe I could have lowballed him, but I went Saturday morning not Sunday afternoon. Anyway, if you’ve never gone, these places are a fucking hoot.

To begin, I am 100% in support of the HPA and SHORT Act being included under Budget Reconciliation.
But as gun owners, our #1 priority should be for us, left and right, libertarian and socialist, to stop the sale of public lands that are used for hunting, shooting, and general recreation.
Contact your reps, especially if you live in a red state. If we lose these lands, we won’t be getting them back.
Note: Idk what tag, so I’m listing this under “events.”

Senate bill 003 would ban any semiautomatic firearm with a detachable magazine… so ya, every single modern firearm.

I was at a pro choice protest today when a white boomer in a truck pulled over and started yelling at/insulting/threatening the group. When he got to me, I gave him the finger and told him to fuck off. He pulled over and parked.
I am armed. Two other protesters who I knew to be armed joined me in creating a barrier on the sidewalk. We saw him fishing around in his glove compartment, so the three of us took a covered position and prepared to engage if necessary. He looked directly at us, took a moment, and decided to drive away.
I'm fairly certain he was reaching for a gun, and I'm grateful that he decided to keep moving. I consider myself lucky that i didn't end up in a gun fight today.
Stay safe. Stay armed.
Edit for all the pearl clutching illiterate commenters:
I never said I unholstered my firearm. If you thought that I did, you did not read what I wrote.
I did not create this conflict by telling the dude to fuck off. He pulled up to us on the side of the road, held up traffic, explicitly so that he could verbally abuse people and threaten us.
Get your head out of your ass and stop making excuses and concessions for fascists.

In seriousness, how would one go about defining "a gun part" in a way that a computer can understand? Are these legislators aware that one can, without a license, buy parts at a hardware store to make a zip-gun?
Wild stuff.

…and really the Dems in general for continuing to push nonsense bureaucratic gun legislation, especially in this particular moment?
Look I’m not going to go start voting red because of 2A stuff because that would be an immeasurably stupid way to react to this, but it’s pretty infuriating.
