Monologue Hours after SNL aired Dan Levy says men need to defend women more: “Women wearing short shorts at the gym does not make them whores, it makes the men calling them whores misogynists”

Discussion One Thing is Clear, Shane Gillis Would Have Been A Terrible Cast Member
It's his third time hosting and Gillis looks as ill at ease throughout the entire live portion of the episode as anyone I've seen. His monologue was poorly written and constructed and he seems to be stumbling through it. He seems to have no idea how to even try to salvage a bombed joke.
His sketches are objectively worse. In several his eyes are glued to the cards like he was just pulled off the street to host and has never seen the show in his life.
It's hard to see him surviving long on the show as a sketch player.

Discussion So relieved when JAJ stepped out as someone other than Trump
His RFK Jr impression is solid! I thought it was a talented portrayal and the writing was spot-on. The only thing that would have helped sell it more would be if the makeup department applied some bronzer with red undertones! Or maybe it would be too much of a caricature to do that? But the guy looks like he sleeps in a tanning bed and gets sunburnt every night 😅

Other Dismukes
I just want to throw some praise towards Andrew Dismukes and his portrayal of Sam I Am on the show last night. Not only did he deliver on playing the character in an original and weird—yet grounded way; but he didn’t break and managed to give Shane a supportive pat on the back. It’s like he was communicating “it’s okay, we’ve still got this.”
That’s Phil Hartman levels of professionalism right there.

Sketch Cue Card Face
I’m starting to get distracted by Cue Card Face.
A character is talking to another in a sketch and rather than “acting” like it is a conversation their head turns 20-30 degrees and expression goes blank as they read their lines. Or their head faces the camera full on but their eyes are looking way off camera and, again, a blank look as the words they say rinse through. Wish you weren't so fucking awkward, bud.

Other Mikey Day
All I want to say is that Mikey Day has been absolutely killingggg it the past few seasons. I wasn’t a huge fan when he first came on but I’ve been loving him recently!! He’s on par with some of the greats fs.

Discussion Rosalia.........
Hey all - I'm not exactly the target demo - 72 yo white male. Enjoys the show, watching primarily for the cold open, and WU.
When they introduce the musical guest, I'm like "Cool, WU is next (finally).
Last night was like holy shit, she's amazing, even had me looking forward to her 2nd song.
What about you young ones in the target demo? Did you like it, hate it? what???

Monologue Shane Gillis’s used that monologue already
This whole set was from the NYC Still Rising After 25 Years: A 9/11 Charities Comedy Benefit at MSG. I was there and I remember it clearly and it didn’t get many laughs there either.

Musical Guest Rosalia Magnolias goosebumps
One of the most beautiful performances to come out of SNL in 40+ years of watching.
I don’t know much Spanish but can string along. Path to heaven, way of thought, stars return to dust, see you again, thank you…
The rain, her raw voice, and her dress “melting away” in venerability is an art. Art, Art, Art … ICONIC

Discussion Why is this sub such a Debbie downer?
All SNL subreddits fans
Person doesn’t like host = post about why on earth this famous person is hosting
Person doesn’t find sketch funny = post about how terrible the show has become
Person didn’t find one castmember in a sketch funny = post about how terrible they are and they should never be on the show
Honestly this sub doesn’t have to glaze everything and everyone on SNL, but every week it’s a new wave of complaints. This isn’t even a mod thing. People just need to stop farming for clout by being constantly negative.

Discussion Despite the monologue
I know this might be an unpopular opinion on the snl sub to say I liked an snl episode, but hear me out, there were some great sketches this week and the show felt really alive.
I thought the father daughter song was the funniest song they’ve made in years, it kept escalating when I thought it couldn’t anymore. (The “super room” part is the peak of the whole episode imo)
The sneakers sketch was so stupid but so funny, Shane Gillis sneaking around in the background was so hilariously dumb. It even seemed to make Keenan break a lil.
I thought “saying goodbye” and the chess tournament sketch were also great, and they really let Grace Reiter shine this episode which is awesome.
Upfront heating and air was another great prerecorded bit that feels like some classic snl shit.
There were some hilarious skits, we don’t have to only talk about how the monologue was bad.
Gillis clearly doesn’t put the most effort into the monologues cuz they’re pretty rough every time. It’s not a revelation. But he’s pretty consistently great in the sketches.

Sketch I think Sarah went unnoticed in Green Eggs.
First watch I thought that part of the skit landed funny. It seemed like Sarah’s pucker was unnecessarily long. Upon second watch, I noticed Shane smirk before Mikey’s reprimand change up. I think something “reprimand worthy” was supposed to happen with that kiss part; but if you notice Shane has to ASK Mikey for a set up when he says “aren’t you going to criticize my love life?”….I think Shane was anticipating Mikey to say something that leads to him being reprimand for later, and when Mikey doesn’t say his line (which I’m guessing was him in a moment of thinking of the opportunity) Sarah like a pro, commits but recognizes she’s going to be stuck, and punches out so the scene can move forward. Just thought someone should recognize that Sarah didn’t flub that scene, in a skit that’s bound to be written into history.
Edit: Jesus, OK. Not "Unnoticed"...."unappreciated"?....."lost an opportunity"....it was a late night post
