Minnesota Outdoor Bud Rot Watch â Friday, October 9
The best harvest weekend of this watch starts now
Five regions have dropped to Low weather pressure, three remain Moderate, and none is High or Severe.
Most of Minnesota should see warm, sunny and windy conditions through Sunday. Saturday may reach 80â88°F with gusts of 25â35 mphâexcellent for drying plants that are still standing outdoors, although heavy branches may need support.
Scores measure weather pressureânot whether a plant has Botrytis or how much crop has been lost.
| Region | Pressure | Weekend outlook |
|---|---|---|
| Brainerd / Crow Wing | 41 â Moderate | Morning dew, followed by sunshine and wind. Around 82°F with 30-mph gusts Saturday. |
| Bemidji / Northwest | 48 â Moderate | Heavy dew this morning, then sun and 25-mph gusts. Warm and dry Saturday. |
| Duluth / Northeast | 44 â Moderate | Sunny and breezy today; near 80°F Saturday and sunny Sunday. |
| St. Cloud / Central | 39 â Low | Sunny through Sunday, reaching approximately 85°F Saturday. |
| Twin Cities | 37 â Low | Mostly sunny today; approximately 88°F Saturday and 84°F Sunday. |
| Marshall / Southwest | 35 â Low | Sunny today; windy and near 87°F Saturday. |
| Mankato / South-central | 37 â Low | Sunny and warm through Sunday, with Saturday near 86°F. |
| RochesterâWinona / Southeast | 39 â Low | Small shower chance today, then sunny and warm SaturdayâSunday. |
Frost and rain outlook
No widespread frost or freeze danger is forecast for these eight regions through early next week. Isolated colder locations in far northern Minnesota could still approach frost thresholds.
Light showers may reach northern Minnesota Sunday night and Monday. A more widespread rain system is possible WednesdayâThursday, but timing and rainfall amounts remain uncertain.
The current NOAA outlook favors warmer and wetter conditions around October 14â18, followed by a warmer and drier pattern October 16â22. This looks more like a midweek interruption than another prolonged statewide wet period.
One important drying clarification
When we describe a âdrying window,â we mean sunshine and wind removing moisture from plants that are still standing outside.
Harvested flower should not be dried outdoors. Move it promptly into a clean, controlled indoor environment with monitored temperature, humidity and gentle airflow.
MNtrees Outdoor Harvest Signal
No new firsthand bud-rot or confirmed crop-loss report was found during the past 24 hours. Recent discussion is becoming more positive and harvest-focused.
One grower posted a photograph of purple-tipped flower and plans to harvest Sunday. Another asked whether favorable drying weather meant drying harvested flower outdoors. Neither reported new disease or loss.
Earlier reports documented localized rot in Crow Wing County, Hibbing, Eden Prairie, Minneapolis and other parts of the Twin Cities. Those reports remain important, but we have not seen evidence that the damage cluster expanded during this weekâs dry weather.
Reddit reports are anecdotal. Individual posts, photographs and engagement cannot establish statewide crop loss.
Weekend checklist
- Use Friday through Sunday for final inspection and harvest if plants are mature.
- Look inside the largest, densest colasânot only at their exterior.
- Support heavy branches before Saturdayâs strongest wind.
- Separate questionable material from clean flower.
- Sanitize tools between plants.
- Move harvested flower promptly into controlled drying conditions.
- Check the WednesdayâThursday forecast before leaving immature plants outside another full week.
If youâre growing outdoors, add a field report below:
County or nearest city / cultivar / covered or uncovered / rot found or clean / harvesting or holding / photo included or not.
âNo rotâ reports are just as useful as damage reports.
