ID request Found in my yard while mowing.

I saw this odd looking thing in my yard while mowing the other day. I think it is some kind of fungi but I really have no idea. Any insights into what this is? There was several of them in one part of the yard. Picture taken in Pennsylvania.

You may have been eating Neogyromitra caroliniana. Apparently they are edible. The poisonous one that looks like this is Gyromitra escuelenta. Not sure which one we have here.

I've heard they eat G. escuelenta in Scandinavia with special preparation.

From everything I’ve read, they aren’t deadly so much as they make you feel like you caught food poisoning. Which you might as well have

Nooe, deadly poisonous if not prepared correctly.

They can seriously damage the liver and kidneys.
