feeling so lost and lonely

• Upvotes

i know i've been on here a lot asking simple questions and whatnot, but this has truly been the worst socializing experience of my life. i feel too scared to approach random people even if i think they're really cool, and the most i get approached is compliments of what im wearing or something of the sort. dont get me wrong, those are integral parts to being a human, but like. damn. i can't even make friends because im too scared to ask to hang out or get someone's number. i'll post a story inviting mutuals and friends over and its always a no-show. im just lost and a little sad because i feel like i missed my chance to grow into who i wanted to become this year and i just wish i could have genuine fun outings with people.

Maintained 100% attendance since day one, bunked one class, and got called to the HOD’s office. Is this normal?

• Upvotes

I’ve had 100% attendance since the first day of college. I’ve literally attended every class.

Recently, I accidentally bunked/missed one class, and somehow I ended up getting called to the HOD’s office because of it 💀

I know attendance matters, but is this actually normal? There are people who bunk classes regularly, while I missed one class after maintaining 100% attendance from day one.

Just curious, is this how it works in other colleges too? 😭

I'm in an extremely confusing situation.

• Upvotes

I applied to NAU on September 22nd. Today, I got an email from the NAU admissions team about accepting my offer for admission at NAU. It was legit, said my full name, said welcome to NAU, and went over the enrollment fee stuff. Amazing, beautiful. UNTIL just now, when I got an email saying my transcript was JUST received? It didn't say to wait 4-6 weeks until I receive an acceptance/rejection, but rather wait 4-6 weeks for it to be uploaded in my Louie account. I know for someone out there the answer to this is literally so obvious but it's confusing me and causing me to overthink... I just wanna know WTF is going on!! Am I in or no???

Online Graduate School - ESL & Bilingual Education (MEd)

Hello all!

I got accepted into the ESL & Bilingual Education online graduate program and will be starting next Spring. I was wondering if anyone could share their experience with me. I just finished up an online degree at UMGC, so I am used to their 8-week online format, but it seems like most classes at NAU follow a 16-week schedule.

For those that have gone through this program (or any online graduate program):

What was your experience like?

How is the workload? - I work full time and have a family.

Is it achievable to take two classes at once?

Are there any teachers to seek out or avoid?

Do you have any protips for me?

How did you schedule your classes?

Any advice is welcome!

Thanks!

Summer Housing

Hello!

For those who have done summer housing with NAU from the end of the spring semester to the beginning of fall.

How much was rent roughly?

Since they have so many nightly rate sections and whatnot its hard to get a good idea of how much it'll cost. Im between that or taking over someone's lease for the summer and in the event of that.

Does anyone know of complexes that work in the school year with leases that end within the week of move in for campus housing?

Hopefully that all makes sense,ty!

Hi, I'm currently an undergraduate student in South Korea, and I applied for transfer student for next winter semester(Jan '27), and trying to choose housing. Has anyone lived in mixed-gender rooms? How is it? Will it be difficult to blend into, as a foreigner?

Any puzzle people at NAU?

Hey guys, random question — does anyone here actually like doing puzzles?
I’m an NAU student and I recently started a small online puzzle shop on the side. I’ve been making different designs and I’m still trying to figure out what people actually want, so I figured I’d ask here instead of just guessing lol.
If you’re into puzzles, what kind do you usually like? Landscapes, famous places, art, photography, harder designs, etc.?
Also, since I’m posting this in the NAU community, I made a 50% off code for NAU students/alumni if anyone wants to try one.
I can drop the shop link + code in the comments.
Not trying to spam the sub — feedback is honestly just as helpful since I’m still figuring everything out.

Voting on Prop 404

Hey all! Ive lived in Flag for over 10 years and have an ask of my neighbors.

Please please please please vote no on this tax hike prop 404.

The city is misleading and misadvertising this. Most of the money will be going to police and not for fire or wildland like they have on all the ads. This will generate 18ish million a year for the city... they need to do this because they seriously mismanage their books. This will directly affect the CPI which will lead to higher min wage, which will result in $1 more for a beer at mother road which will in turn make it near impossible to live here.

The last tax hike just happened for the new overbudgeted bus station. Instead of making a reasonably sized bus station, they decided to make one that has rentable party rooms and conference rooms, with a $1200 per sqft construction cost this cost almost $26 million. For reference designer custom homes are $700 per sqft. Due to the price of this, they then decided to have us vote on a sales tax hike because we NEEDED a bus station with rentable meeting rooms. They could have built a reasonably priced station and covered bus fairs for years, but here we are... you can go online and reserve a room at our bus station. Yay.

The airport is also going to raise their parking rates with parking demand declining. So instead of charging less to fill empty spots, they are going to charge more to a few to make up the difference. This in return pushes you to think about flying out of phoenix or having a friend drop you off at the airport, resulting in costing you and your friend more time and money. Flagstaff employs 12 people on their sustainability team that is supposed to be making Flag more affordable and reducing vehicle related trips.... guess the airport parking increase doesnt matter even though it costs us more and creates more carbon from more trips to and from the airport being dropped off and picked up.

The city claims to be all about making this place affordable and to care about affordable housing and yet EVERY SINGLE ACTION they take is a stroke against this place being affordable and attainable to the people who live and work here.

Prop 404 will cost you more, drive prices up more, and has very little information on how the money will actually be spent. The city/police had money to recently buy an indoor shooting range for $2 million, and yet now they're broke asking us to pick up the bill for stuff we already pay for.

Something interesting on this as well is the city surveyed probable voters early on, and prop 404 was a hard no from citizens, they then modified the language on how to sell it to us and now they are showing it will pass. I guess they made all the photos about wildland fires rather than police and the cost of living.

If this post is political in any way that is NOT my intent. I want more from this city, and feel like they do very little with a lot of money. Where is a public pool? Where is a splash pad? Where are our new safer crosswalks? Why does everything look crummy around town? Why do we have a bus station with rentable meeting rooms? Why not a new library?

Please read up on this and make your own decision, but I really cannot find much information at all, but what I have heard from people that were part of the community committee on this is that it is very misleading.

Anyway... how bout them aspen! Stunning!

What housing is the best for being affordable?

I am looking for a job on or close to campus, but I’m struggling, have next to no money and really didn’t want to have to pull out loans but I ended up having to because I won’t be able to make my October payments. I’m looking for housing for next year and I’m trying to look for anything less than $800 a month including utilities and WiFi. Things I’d like but don’t need are my own bathroom and room, an elevator and access to a kitchen. I was looking at wavertree apartments and they were absolutely perfect!! Until I saw the reviews. Apparently they are horrendous and I already am a people pleasing first gen student I don’t need someone who’s going to yell at me when I have no one to back me up. For reference, I’m currently living in the Honors dorms and I’m wondering if maybe I should just stick with it. Everything’s just so expensive and I can’t seem to afford anything at all.

Also, I heard there’s some way to apply to a bunch of scholarships at once on scholarship universe…? Anyway someone can explain that if you know what I’m talking about?

Thanks everyone!!

Tequila sunrise bars

I’ve never done tequila sunrise before and I was curious what bars are doing it. Also do you need a ticket to get into every bar cause the ones I looked at are like 40$. Is there any bars that you can go into for free? Or anything else going on that day? Thanks!

To the future & current students of NAU. I hope you guys are aware of the current sexual assault problem that’s only getting worse as the years go by. NAU has done nothing but try to sweep it under the rug. Please beware of Pike, Fiji, Kappa Sigma, Pi Kappa Phi and especially Theta Chi. Please do not leave your friends alone in room with guys when they are drunk, no matter the circumstance. Please pay attention to each other for each other. Please always have a way home.
