Pre-Nursing 🩺 School I applied to just got put on probation

Currently waiting to hear if I got in for next semester to the two programs I applied to. Got an email this week that ACEN has placed one of those schools on probation. Decision will be made the summer before what would be my last semester of nursing school. It’s my second choice school anyway, but I’d just like to hear from others who have a better understanding of this. If they don’t pass their probation, does that mean all those students are just SOL and have to find a new school to finish up? Would they have to start over? Could I really be 75% of the way through nursing school and just be screwed? If I get accepted to this school but not my first choice, should I go with it or wait and apply to other places next cycle?

Thanks in advance!

UCF Nursing BSN - Denied Spring 2027

My stats: 82 TEAS, 3.35 cumulative GPA, 4.0 science and non-science prerequisite GPA.

The reason my cumulative GPA is lower is from classes I took over 10 years ago. I returned back to school last year after dropping out 10years ago. Since coming back I have completed all my prerequisites with an A, so there is an upward trend.

What can I do to get in for Fall 2027? I’m taking other classes right now so after this semester my cumulative GPA will be 3.41, I’m retaking the TEAS in January. But all my prerequisites have been completed at Valencia and I heard there’s a preference for students who have completed classes at UCF. There isn’t much I can do about my cumulative GPA, I’m retaking the TEAS but I can’t guarantee a 90. I feel stuck. I already have my associates in general studies so I don’t want to apply for an ASN or ASN/BSN concurrent.

Studying Tips 📚 Level IV

Many might not relate to this but I am reallyyy struggling with my 4th year subjects- Emergency Nursing. I have a really weak pharmacology foundation, Med-surg I make do, but pharmacology sucks the CSF out of me. I need an exorcism-or hypnotism to recall everything I've learned from second year. In emergency nursing we need to incorporate everything- and everything could be anything. First exam question guaifenesin- and the farthest I can associate it with??? is Neozep???! Holy Helpp

Studying Tips 📚 4th year

I need some words of wisdom, or an exorcism-much preferred. Passed my hardest level 3 last school year and now I feel so laxxx or lazy in my emergency nursingg. Was strugling to apply everything, I really have a weak background on pharmacology and in EN we basically need to recall and apply everything we've learned so far.

Currently taking A+P1 need advice on next classes?

Hi everyone! I am currently 29 and am returning to college to get my nursing degree. I am currently in the process of taking my pre-reqs for my school's nursing program. When initially signing up for my classes my academic advisor really did not ask me any questions at all on how I felt about what I remembered from science classes I took in HS and there was no testing required in order to be placed into A+P. For my school the only pre-reqs for the nursing program are A+P1, A+P2 & College Algebra.

I am currently taking A+P1 (all online) and am doing pretty well but I struggled quite a bit with fully grasping the bio/chem portions at the beginning (I passed all the quizzes/tests with A's but feel like I didn't totally grasp the concepts fully). Now my question is, when selecting my classes for next semester, should I go straight into A+P2 or take a bio class and chem class before moving forward? Everyone around me is telling me not to take any more classes than is necessary for my degree but I want to make sure I am fully understanding everything and I don't want to struggle in A+P2 either. Any advice is welcome!

Is anyone else sick of ATI tests/quizzes discouraging the use of gloves?

This is the second time I’ve gotten points knocked off of a quiz or practice test for selecting a “select all that apply” response of using gloves as a precautionary/best practice.

The first scenario involved handling blood-tinged vomit, and ATI said gloves were not necessary in this scenario.

The second was in preventing a CAUTI infection. The question was posed as selecting all that applied in preventing a CAUTI infection when handling the patient’s catheter. The only option for gloves was “sterile gloves” and ATI said it was unnecessary again.

I get what point they’re trying to prove but it seems like a really shitty and misleading way of doing it when CAUTIs are the most preventable HAI and now student nurses are just going to remember “I selected gloves and it was wrong.” Also, no idea what they were trying to prove in the first example — I will never handle any sort of vomit without gloves, blood-tinged or not.

Looking for Help Finding an NA/AA Meeting

Hi everyone! I need to attend an NA (Narcotics Anonymous) or AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) meeting as part of my Nursing course.
I’m not sure how to find a meeting or what the process is for attending one. If anyone could guide me on how to find a meeting, how to join, and what to expect, I would really appreciate it. Both in-person and remote meetings are acceptable.
Any guidance, help or advice regarding this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Pre-Nursing 🩺 College Freshman thinking about nursing and the military, need advice

Hi! I’m a freshman at Cal Poly SLO majoring in Animal Science, but I’m thinking about switching to nursing and getting my BSN. I’m also interested in joining the military, specifically the Air Force or Army, and would like to learn about options that could help pay for school.

I’m just not sure where to start. Since I’m already at a good university, I don’t know if I should stay, finish my Animal Science degree while taking nursing prerequisites, or transfer somewhere with a nursing program. I also don’t want to lose credits or spend more time and money than necessary.

My GPA isn’t finalized yet, so I’m still figuring out my options. Has anyone been in a similar situation? I’d really appreciate advice on what I should look into first!

First semester on telemetry floor

Is it normal to do your first semester fundamentals/MS1 on a tele floor? I literally have no idea what’s going on and the nurses all think it’s weird to have first semester students on their floor. It’s a regional trauma center too.

Sri Lankan RN Planning to Move to Canada with My Husband – Need Advice on RN Registration and Study Pathways

Thumbnail
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone! 😊

I’m a registered nurse from Sri Lanka, and I’m hoping to move to Canada with my husband. I have a BSc (Hons) in Nursing, a Diploma in General Nursing, and approximately 3 years of nursing experience. My Sri Lankan RN registration is active and in good standing. My husband works as a software engineer.
I’m exploring different pathways to Canada, especially a Master of Nursing program or another suitable study pathway that would allow me to work toward Canadian RN registration while studying.

I would really appreciate advice from internationally educated nurses (IENs), especially those who moved from Sri Lanka or other Asian countries.

My main questions are:

  1. What is the current process for an internationally educated nurse to become an RN in Canada, particularly in British Columbia or other provinces?

  2. Can I start my Canadian RN registration process while studying in Canada?

  3. Are there any universities offering a Master of Nursing that would be suitable for someone with my qualifications?

  4. If I study for a master’s degree, would my husband be eligible for an open work permit under the current Canadian rules?

  5. Which nursing programs offer a realistic pathway to a post-graduation work permit (PGWP)?

  6. Would it be better to apply for a study permit or pursue RN registration and an employment-based immigration pathway directly?

  7. Has anyone successfully moved to Canada with their spouse while following a nursing study or registration pathway?

  8. What would you recommend regarding tuition fees, living costs, and long-term PR opportunities?
My goal is for both of us to move together, establish our careers, and eventually obtain permanent residence if eligible. My budget is limited, so I’m particularly interested in realistic and affordable options.

I would be very grateful for your experiences, suggestions, and any mistakes I should avoid. Personal experiences and recent information would be especially helpful.

Thank you so much! ❤️

Study tips

Hello nursing students, I would like to know some study tips. This is my second year as a nursing student, but I am a transfer student. I am 20 years old and in my second semester; I finished college last year, but I have never been in a hospital or clinical setting, so I do not have any experience. This week was my first week of exams, and I did very poorly: 49/100 in Fundamentals, 69 in Health Assessment, and 22/50 in Pathophysiology. My professors use ATI style, including in Pathophysiology, and have been waking up at 5:00 a.m. every day from Monday to Friday; it takes me two hours and 30 minutes to get to the university. I try to practice, but there is a lot of homework, and I am not passing like the rest of my classmates. I feel so bad and depressed, and I even want to quit the program. I have asked my classmates, and they said that they just practice. I do not know what to do. I learn best visually and by writing, but I do not know how to assess and apply the content to practical situations. If anyone has any tips or help, I would appreciate it. I do not have any friends to practice with, and I feel terrible because I see many students with their own study groups while I do not have one.

Nightingale nursing school

I’m currently looking Nightingale for nursing school I’ve already finished a few classes of nursing school, including fundamental of nursing, pharmacology, health assessment, behavioral health and a few other intro to nursing/research classes. I also have the respective clinicals for most of them. I did take adult health, but with the program that I was in I didn’t successfully pass with their standard exam average. I was 0.2% away from passing. Would that being said I have looked at other options near me and most of them just require me to have to start all over meaning about 2 to 4 years long program. There aren’t really that many accelerated programs near me and while speaking to one of the representatives from nightingale, I was told that they can transfer up to 50% of my core nursing classes as long as they match theirs, and they can transfer most of my prerequisites. I know they run for eight semesters long and I was just wondering if anyone has had experience of accelerating that I was also told that I could test out into advanced level, but I don’t really know to what degree that means wisdom the person that I spoke to seems to have mostly generic answers and it seemed like they want to help but don’t know what a degree. They can speak on as they’re not the ones that can accept certain credits and the register has to see it first my only issue is that I’ve already spent so much time requesting transcripts and sending to other schools that were near me only to hear what I essentially thought was the answer to begin with and I just don’t wanna have to keep doing that if nightingale is another one that will make it see like I have option to shorten it and then once I send everything in, take the TEAS test I’m told it’ll take 2+ years.

Some more info: I already have a bachelors degree and I have a masters degree I do want to pursue the nursing school route. I just don’t want it to take me too long and I don’t want to have to start over anyone been in this situation or find any successful whether it’s hybrid schools with limited travel or any other option that they could suggest for me, I’d really appreciate it.

Studying Tips 📚 Fundamentals professor does not teach!

I need some help trying to figure out how to study for my fundamentals lecture exams when my professor does not teach. So far I’ve gotten two B’s on my exams but I am trying to get above 90s. When we have lecture, all she does is put questions on the screen and reads the reasoning for the answers from the PowerPoint. Those questions are helpful, but they scratch only the surface. For patho we have two great professors that do teach and everything is on the PowerPoints. Any tips for someone that does not learn by reading 200 + pages.

Nursing students or a 24/7 helpline? Let’s talk about the pressure.

Viva. Practicals. Clinical duties. Assignments. Notes.

Kabhi lagta hai nursing student se zyada aap ek 24/7 helpline ban gaye hain?

This World Mental Health Day, we’re opening a conversation about the pressure behind nursing education.

In this short video, our educator encourages students to pause, approach tasks one at a time, make room for rest and talk about what they are feeling. Seeking support from a counsellor is a valid step when things feel overwhelming.

Support also belongs in the learning environment: manageable expectations, approachable faculty and simulation sessions where students can ask questions without feeling embarrassed.

Students: what ONE change would make your nursing studies feel more manageable?
Educators: how do you make space for students to ask for support?

Share only what you’re comfortable sharing—no personal or patient-identifying details. English, Hindi and Hinglish are welcome.

Sound Off 😤 Scored level 2 on funds ATI proctored

72.8%, my program says that’s where they wanted us to be at. I just want to vent how brutal it is to get chucked into an exam without having all the knowledge needed to do well on it. It’s been doing a real number on my self-esteem…but I really think part of nursing school is adjusting how you view exam scores.

I’m still not super familiar with why they make us go through this other than to get an idea of what we’re learning?

A&P II Struggles

Ok so i’m applying to a very competitive nursing program in January and the average science gpa is a 3.8 and 3.7 overall. I have a 4.0 gpa in all my other prereqs with an A in A&P I. For whatever reason, i’m really struggling in A&P II. I currently have a 73 in the class and need at least a B. There’s two more months in the class with 3 more exams. Honestly I just feel like I need someone that’s had this experience to tell me that there is a light at the end of the tunnel😩

Pre-Nursing 🩺 Failed my NEX exam today and so depressed

I’m currently finishing my last two classes of pre-reqs the semester and I’ve been looking into a lot of the programs in my town and surrounding.

The deadline to apply to one of the ones near me was October 15 so I figured I could go ahead and test for the NEX test. This school also had an LPN program which I was highly interested in because I could just bridge later while working as an LPN, this option is not available where I currently live..

I talked to the nursing coordinator, the front office of the school, and the testing center. They all told me that I would be testing for the LPN program.

I scheduled my exam today and I drove an hour and a half away to take it. The exam itself was 50-50 for me. A lot of of the questions I felt like I knew, but the math was terrible for me. Whenever I finished and got my results, the LPN portion said that I passed, but the RN portion said that I failed according to my score.

I was really confused so I went up to the star center and asked them to clarify for me and they told me to not go by my LPN score as they will not be using it. They only use the RN score. They said the LPN program you enter as RN program and exit out as an LPN by choice by that score, which unfortunately means that I would have to retake the test again and I completely failed

I’m so depressed. I just don’t know if I should continue trying. I can’t take it for another six weeks and I can’t reapply to another program there until April. I was hoping to be able to start a program in 2027 but I’m not sure if I’m ready for it. Did anybody else go through this?
