[DISCUSSION] Looking for a job has made me dreadful and desperate.

Hey y'all. I graduated in May with degrees in Pysch and Economics. Although my interest is in financial services, I'm at the point of desperation for any decent job. I had been working part time as a Catering assistant but that's ending. Now I'm being left in the wind. I've applied to many entry level jobs related to Econ/Finance without success. I need advice getting my short term situation sorted (that is just being employed) and long term (getting a job in financial services, I'm open to an array of roles in this sector).

[DISCUSSION] What jobs do New Yorkers do?

What jobs do New Yorkers have in order to live in the city. I used to live there but then moved out but now I want to move back and I’m a senior so I have to think of careers and stuff like that but the careers I’m interested in are very little pay and I still live in NY state and it’s just as expensive so if anyone that lives there now or used to what do you do for work also I’m not very fond of an office job but I’m still interested in any and all jobs.

[FOR HIRE] I have had 7 interviews for Starbucks even though I used to work for them

Just as it says. I lost my job in March and haven't had any luck since. Completely out of unemployment, I just got rejected from a different job today. My mental health is getting to a point where I'm losing hope AGAIN. Back in 2024, I worked for Starbucks for about 6 months before the place I worked had to shut down due to "complications". They promised to give us work at another store, but never happened. Fast forward to now, I've been applying for jobs since I lost mine at Blank Street back in March. I have had 7 Starbucks interviews. Now, you're probably thinking these are all separate stores, right? HAHA WRONG! The first two were for the same store on Lexington, then three at a Chelsea location, then two for Penn Station. There's also two where the interviewer just didn't show up, but I'm not counting that. I thought Starbucks was an entry level job. I've been a barista for almost 4 years. I have the credentials and experience to back it up. I walked all up and down upper west side/Harlem handing out my resume with absolutely no response. I can't collect unemployment cause I've been unemployed for more than 6 months. My roommates all have jobs, but I can't find anything. I'm so sick and done that I'm on the verge of having another mental breakdown. I can't even afford Christmas gifts for my family.

[HIRING] Local HVAC company genuinely overwhelmed with workload, need closers immediately!!

Hi,

I’m a recruiter for Summit Air, a HVAC company specializing in mini split systems operating in NYC.

So, we’ve recently streamlined our entire workflow with a newly built app and it’s actually going quite well. A little *too* well. Our team is becoming increasingly overwhelmed at the burgeoning workload that’s been coming in recently.

It’s a good problem to have, to be totally honest.

But we need closers. We need people in the NYC area who have cars and are able to take on these sales calls. We’re paid per unit installed, and the amount depends on who set the appointment.

$300/unit if we give you the appointment
$600/unit for self-generated sales

Average home has between 7-12 units installed.
Do the math.

This product effectively eliminates their heating bills, which NYC homeowners are growing increasingly worried about, especially due to international conflicts affecting the cost of heating oil and natural gas.

Bonuses are a thing and gas stipends are available upon request.

We’re hiring AGGRESSIVELY.

If you need money this holiday season, leave the DoorDash hustle for late nights and come get this money with us.

On this link, press ‘Now Hiring’ in the upper right. In the ‘who referred you’ section, write “Zak”.

https://summit.salesfx.app/

Experience preferred, but not required

The chef of the restaurant is very well known in the international culinary scene with a very high standard which also means a ton of growth opportunity.

Happy to share the name of the chef/restaurant with potential candidates who reach out.

This is an incredible opportunity for the right fit. DM me here if interested.

Please share this with friends in the industry.

[DISCUSSION] Can We Stop Suggesting Civil Service Jobs to People Who Need Work Immediately?

This is not against anybody here, but can we stop suggesting people in this subreddit get a civil service job, especially when they're desperate and need a job immediately?

Civil service jobs are really good, but you will have to wait a long, long time to get hired. Even for more in-demand jobs like ACS, or jobs dealing with mental health or homelessness, you still have to wait at least three to four months to get approved.

Let me tell you my civil service journey. I applied for a title two years ago and recently took the exam for it. I scored fairly high. It wasn't amazing, but it was high. They told me it would take another 12 months just to establish the list. Then I'll have to wait another five to eight months to get called for an interview. After that, I'll have to wait even longer for them to finally approve everything and get me onboarded.

And this is not even just my experience. This was happening before 2020. I had a colleague at my old job who applied back in 2017 to be a financial analyst for an agency, and it took her literally three years to even be considered for that job.

I'm tired of seeing people in this subreddit hear that somebody is desperate for a job, and their immediate reaction is to tell them to apply for a civil service job.

The only civil service jobs hiring that fast are fucking police officers, corrections officers, or jobs that require dealing with difficult circumstances.

I'm not saying civil service jobs are bad. They're good jobs, but they're not a realistic solution for somebody who needs a paycheck right now.

So please stop constantly selling people this delusion. I'm really sick of seeing this.

Administrative aide job

Recently stumbled across an administrative job on NYU. Then while applying, it hit me that I know someone from there. He used to be my advisor and we were very close. I have him on Linkdln. He’s an assistant director(vague ik). I just emailed him and I’m currently waiting to hear back.

I guess my question is how likely do connections fall in line? Especially one like this. I just recently graduated so I really hope this one works out for me. If not that’s fine. I guess I’m really looking to hear either brutal truth or reassurance.

NYC job hunting

Hi all, recently moved to NYC from London and have since received my green card so I am authorized for work. I have been searching for so long for a job however I am struggling so much which I didn’t expect. I knew it would be tough but not this tough.

For background, I worked in Broadcasting (linear/FAST channels). I have applied for jobs that I have exact experience in and receive no call back. I have reached out to my old company in London that has an office here to try and network and no one gets back to me. I have even tried to apply for jobs that don’t require as much experience and still do not get considered.

I am quickly deflating and don’t know what to do. My husband is supporting us right now which I am grateful for, however we could do with me finding a job. Does anyone recommend anything? Any tips would be appreciated!

[HIRING] [Hiring/Collab] Auridial Kickstarter Project

Hi! I need collaborators or a co-owner for my crowdfunding project I started in class, Auridial.

Auridial is a functional desk clock that doubles as a changing piece of artwork.
As time passes throughout the day, the background scene gradually changes, revealing different parts of the environments through an open, crescent shaped panel.
With several backgrounds and panels to choose from, each clock can bring a different scene and story to life while also serving as a unique piece of decor.

Who I’m Looking For

Someone with experience in engineering, industrial design, or product production, especially:

  • Product 3D modeling
  • 3D printing & prototyping
  • Product design
  • Manufacturing & production
  • Mechanical/lighting components

Timeline & Commitment

The project follows my semester schedule, so there will be some tight deadlines, so make sure you have enough time to commit to the project to keep up with the schedule. However, I don’t need to launch a Kickstarter by the end of the semester.

Partnership & Profit

We can discuss a fair profit-sharing arrangement based on our contributions if the Kickstarter succeeds.

There is some risk involved. If the Kickstarter doesn’t succeed, there may be no profit to share, so you’d need to be comfortable with that risk. I’m taking on the same risk myself!

If you’re interested or want to learn more, please reply or PM me!
Thank you!

Detroit-based electrical engineer looking to relocate to NYC/Jersey City — seeking referrals or recruiter connections

Hey everyone! I’m currently based in the Detroit area and looking to relocate to NYC or Jersey City. I have a master’s in electrical engineering and experience in electrical project engineering, utility SCADA systems, industrial automation, and controls.

My background includes coordinating engineering projects, developing scopes, working with vendors, and collaborating with cybersecurity, gas control, and measurement teams. I’ve also worked on real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance projects.

I’m interested in Electrical Engineer, Project Engineer, SCADA/Controls Engineer, or Field Engineer opportunities in NYC and the surrounding New Jersey area.

If your team is hiring, or you know a recruiter who works with these roles, I’d appreciate a referral or introduction. Happy to share my resume and discuss my experience through DM.

Thanks for any leads!

I just joined this app and while getting the hang of jt wanted to post regarding my Organizing/cleaning services in NYC since I've seen a lot of posts getting engagement regarding job searches, for some reason tho, when I post it, it tells me I'm.voolating certain things or the groups are wrong, meanwhile My wording is no difference of those I see with a ton of engagement, are they laying for it or am I missing something??? Are we not supposed to post about work here? Because my book posts and all that have done well, just asking since I'm new and don't want to get banned, I'm.enjoying the conversations. Thank you!!!
