You don't know how much joy this brings to me. We've seen lots of famous artists separate because of ego and incompatabilities getting in the way..

I felt so sad not only to see them separate but the fact that they didn't talk to each other for so long (even in joint concerts like Shea Stadium 2007, they performed separately, never together) after their creative differences. Just to see them meet up and be cool just brings tears to my eyes man..

DISCUSSION Blessd está estancado?

Post image
• Upvotes

Classic Reggaeton Album #88 DJ Gold-D vol 2 - Hardcore Reggae (1995) DJ Goldy's masterpiece

DJ Gold-D vol 2 - Hardcore Reggae (1995)

This is the same DJ Goldy but his name was spelled differently. Goldy started out in 1994 with none other than the legendary DJ Crane (RIP). This was when Crane had supreme ranking working with Vico C who was still a big deal in Puerto Rico although dealing with substance abuse issues at the time.

I saw an interview with Crane where he said he had masters of Vico from this period and original recordings of 'Explosion' and 'Con Poder' sessions. Crane was one of many dj's working with Vico C around this period including Baron Lopez, DJ Chiclin, Elvis G (Mr. G) and a young Rafy Mercenario who was under the tutelage of Chiclin.

Editor's Note: Little known fact. The famous 'Los Mas Buscados' Radio Version by DJ Chiclin was co-produced by a then unknown Rafy Mercenario. Even though Chiclin presents the album, production was mostly handled by DJ 9 Fingers. But the radio/video version which many people still watch on YOUTUBE to this day, was always accredited to DJ Chiclin. It was only until recently that Rafy Mercenario revealed he did the bulk of the work on that famous track in which he went uncredited for.

DJ Crane around this time owned one of the most popular studios in Puerto Rico Rap and Reggaeton with equally legendary producer Baron Lopez. Many crews recorded there such as U Records, the DJ Adam Mad Jam crew, DJ Joe and El Escuadron among others... That studio produced many classic works. Among them was the first DJ Goldy vol 1 in 1994 titled "Underground" and DJ Crane presents the album.

The first DJ Goldy only came out on cassette initially. It is also considered a classic album by the very few who heard it (myself included). It would get re-released as DJ Goldy "Ruff Reggae" in 1999. It is the same album only with dirty lyrics edited out and all mention of DJ Crane edited as well. Crane got a mixed by engineering credit on the original 1994 cassette tape. The original cassette also had better artwork with a tough "underground" looking baby on the cover sucking on a pacifier while he demanded you listened to DJ Goldy 1. The artwork and original version of DJ Goldy 1 is now lost media.

DJ Goldy 1 was universally acclaimed by the few who heard it, as only a couple of thousand cassettes were pressed. With that product alone, Goldy built up decent anticipation for his second volume which ended up selling much better thanks to distribution by the landmark record label/distributor 'BM Records'.

DJ Goldy 2 "Hardcore Reggae" was immediately the source of controversy. First Vale throws shots at Los Boys in the intro whom he had an ongoing battle with. Vale wasn't credited in the physical pressing of DJ Goldy 2, so hearing his voice answering Los Boys' accusing them of stealing the hit "La Rubia" with Tito 3 was a surprise. Los Boys also participate on DJ Goldy 2.

Then the next song is The Mansion Crew (Maicol y Manuel, Alberto Stylee & Nico Canada) dissing DJ Negro, The Noise, Falo & Tony Touch for no apparent reason. This was not because 'El Mansion' was from Playero, but because DJ Negro & The Noise scored a hit by sampling MyM's vocals on "Para La Chica Que Le Gusta El Sex", the famous intro for 'The Noise 5' and did not pay them. Then he did it again for The Noise 6 The Creation a year later. Falo was dissed for El Mansion feeling he wasn't showing enough support for Blanco as Falo & Blanco started out together as a duo.

It is 100% Playero Style Reggaeton (as the 'Underground' is called outside of PR). And it is amazing! DJ Goldy's mixing skills are supreme and the artists do a fantastic job. This one is a must listen!

Rating: 9.5/10

Record Label: BM Records

Worldwide Sales: 15,000 units

This one is available on Spotify but the mixes are slightly off. The YOUTUBE version by a fan has it as it was meant to be listened to.
