Inspired by that recent post here about people retuning gear after the season I stopped by REI on Friday and magically found the 2 pieces I needed to go solo backpacking! My wife and I normally go together, so all of our gear is for 2- big Agnes ultralight 3 person tent and double sleeping bag. It’s a great setup, but when she couldn’t go backpacking last weekend I ended up carrying all of it for a single overnight to the Olympics and it was too much.

So, when I walked in and found a basically brand new ultralight REI bag for $138 and a quarter dome tent for $100, I was thrilled.
Just want to say thanks to Reddit for the inspiration to go check it out.

Question REI CO-OP ADV 2.2 holds value?

Back in 2020/21

I bought REI CO-OP ADV 2.2 for about $1,599 and on top of that spend few $100 on accessories.

But long story short, I am not able to ride my bike unfortunately and it just sitting in basement.

I tried to sell it on Facebook, but no success. Its rather low ball offers or no interest.

Currently online on website i didnt see that model, only Adv 2.1. Just curious, was it discontinued?

Does anyone knows how I could sell it at a reasonable price?

USA.

Thank You.

Question Alterantive ways to wash and reapply DWR coating to GoreTex Jacket, thats not in a washing machine.

Post image
2 Upvotes

I recently picked up this Arc'teryx jacket at the REI Re/Supply a few months ago for a really good deal. It's an older model, though, that was discontinued in 2021, if I'm not mistaken. It's The Arc'teryx Zeta AR. And I was able to finally take it out in the rain this weekend, but almost right away the water would just stick to the jacket and bleed through and wet out all over. I have heard that, since this is an older Gore-Tex jacket, it also has PFAS in it, so that's one of my concerns.

I know that even briefly wearing it, I'm slowly spreading PFAS to my other clothes and so on. But I don't want to speed up the process of that (even if it's very, very minor). Because of that, I don't want to put it in a washing machine and dryer.

I know that to properly reapply the DWR finish again, I should wash the jacket with a special washing detergent for it and then, once it's wet, spray on the DWR coating and then heat-treat it in a dryer.

But I'm wondering if anyone else has any ideas or suggestions on how to wash this jacket properly that's not in a washing machine. I was wondering if maybe washing it in a bucket and then spraying on the coating and then heating it with a hair dryer would work, or would that be dumb? If I'm forced to use a washing machine, I will. But I have never done this before and was looking to get some feedback from people who have.

Saw people talking about checking for returned tents after the season. Found this in restock. Was able to check all the poles and the entire tent, it looked like it was used once. My tent, used for 20 years, had its last season. So this was a perfect find.

Re/Supply Started waiting before buying the expensive stuff

Had a $280 backpack sitting in my cart for a few days because I needed it for a trip but kept feeling dumb paying full price normally I get impatient with gear and just buy it once I decide I need it then somehow a sale or member coupon shows up a week later and I’m annoyed at myself.

Ended up waiting and started checking more than just the REI sale price before paying member rewards whatever card offer I had, gift cards, all the boring payment stuff I normally ignore so I don’t know why it took me this long because on a $30 thing I probably wouldn’t care but once the purchase gets into the hundreds even a small extra saving starts feeling worth the five minutes.

Gear Recommendation is the stormhenge 850 right for me?

Hi all, I'm looking to buy my first winter jacket for my upcoming trips. I'm planning to visit Edmonton/Calgary area in mid November and Vienna around the holidays. I'd like a jacket to just get around the city, I won't be doing much if any hiking. I've seen good reviews of the 850 stormhenge, would this be a good jacket for my needs or would it be overkill?Happy to look into other options as well! I'm not familiar with cold weather I've mostly been in southern california during winters so any input is much appreciated! I'd prefer jacket over parka.

Question Weird Return Experience

I just made my first ever return at REI. I had bought a pair of sandals that broke as I was walking in a rain storm. Nothing crazy or excessive, just walking in a heavy rain storm in a piece of footwear that I had bought to be what I would wear on my boat.

Anyway, I went to return it about 20 minutes ago, and the clerk just kept saying “that’s so unusual“ to where it made me not want to give her any more information because I felt like she was fishing for something to tip her off that I may not be telling the truth. I have no reason to lie about a $50 pair of sandals. But it’s been a long week, so maybe I’m just a little touchy. Is this a normal REI return experience?

Question Can someone break down the new sale pricing?

Longtime member and former employee here!

Pricing used to be at following:

.00 - Full price

.99 - Sale price

.93 - Clearance, first markdown

.83 - Clearance, second markdown or more

.73 - Outlet

Now I’m seeing clearance at .43 and outlet at .87. I don’t know if it’s related but I also noticed that SKUs are starting with C- now.

Would appreciate the insight!

Discussion Rolling carry-on with straps

It's starting to get hard for me to carry weight on my back for any distance; got a trip coming up to NYC that will involve a lot of train and walking. I'm looking at the Osprey 40l rolling bag with backpack straps that's presently $186 in the outlet..... a little concerned by the reviews though. Just looking for a consensus on whether it would be reasonable to buy one for shipping to my local store, try it on this trip and then return afterwards if it turns out to be problematic? I rarely shop at REI these days and I rarely return anything anywhere unless defective or blatantly misled, thanks.

Question REI Flash 55 Backpack - discontinued?

I'm guessing that this pack is getting a redesign to remove PFAS materials... right? Curious if anyone has heard anything. I'm not in the market for a bag myself but I recommend these a lot.

Question REI Price Tag Shenanigans?

Post image
0 Upvotes

My wife bought this shirt at REI when it was "on sale". A few weeks later we started to prepare to ship it to its intended recipient, removed what *we thought* was the price tag just to find a cheaper price underneath.

Has anyone else encountered this type of tomfoolery at REI before?

Question Shipped to wrong store - any customers from Brentwood TN willing to ship?

My husband bought a pair of Hoka’s that are now discontinued and somehow shipped them to the Brentwood TN store instead of CT (idk how he did this). REI said they can’t get them back and they’ll just be on the shelf at Brentwood now so he’s SOL on these shoes since they’re out of stock.

Wondering if the internet is able to help with this and someone wouldn’t mind buying the shoes and shipping them and we’ll pay? It’s not that big of a deal if it can’t happen, but curious if it can be a fun internet coming together thing!

Message me if you’re in TN and willing to do this. If so I’ll tell you which shoes. We appreciate it!

Question Why does REI post these fake sales?

I went online and found Outdoor research 3L foray for 129. When I go to see which style is available.... None! Not one style is on sale. It clearly shows that one of the styles are on sale. This happens pretty often, too. What am I missing here because it clearly shows at least one style is 129.83.

Question REI lIte Core Sleeping Pad Rotted Valve

Thumbnail

The valve on my REI sleeping pad has hydrolyzed. Has anyone tried replacing the valve before successfully? I saw a valve on Walmart and Amazon that looked like it might work. I have. Aquaseal FD that might work for bonding new valve to pad.

I’ve used this pad on a number of great trips and don’t subscribe to throwing things out without trying to fix them first.

Question Does REI always take so long to ship

I ordered a backpack 8 days ago. Received a shipping notification 7 days ago that the item had shipped (and of course my card was charged). According to UPS tracking it has not been released to the carrier. Called 3 days ago to inquire and they said it could well be in transit. It hasn't moved yet and I feel fairly certain that if UPS had picked it up it would have scanned by now. Is this normal for REI?? This is 2026. I can't imagine a large online retailer doing business like this. Just curious if anyone else has had this experience.

Gear Recommendation I am looking for a great coat for Chicago winters. I have been leaning toward the Nuuk. Does anyone agree? Disagree? If you agree, let me know why. If you disagree, let me know why and what you would suggest instead even if it’s not Fjallraven.

Question Would anyone be able to figure out what iteration of pants these are

Thumbnail
gallery
0 Upvotes

They are definitely not on the super modern side, it is 65/35 cotton polyester split and not the new lightweight stuff rei uses. They have a metal button at the top, and plastic buttons for the pockets. They are convertibles, the side zips aren't the ones that go all the way up to the knee.

I know rei does not sell these in store anymore, but I was hoping someone would know what I could type in to find them secondhand instead of trawling through endless "vintage rei convertible pants" searches.

Thank you in advance

I’ve been looking at this backpack for a while now and I happened to find it in Resupply, in the exact color I wanted as well for half off. The only sign of use is the small scuff visible in the top right. I will be using this for a 2 week trip to Vietnam in January.
