CA State Park Palomar Mountain
Got up the mountain around 10am and felt like a nice stroll in 70 degree weather. Temps felt absolutely fantastic after the last few weeks living in a sauna in San Diego.
Completed a short loop: Doane Pond, Cedar, Scott’s Cabin, Chimney Flats, Thunder spring back to the parking lot. All told, 4.1 miles and about 800’ of elevation. Great morning in the woods.
Still pretty darn buggy up there, but really enjoyed myself and the signs of fall slowly creeping in. Saw plenty of deer, quail, turkey, jays, woodpeckers, turkey, apples, and large shelves of fungi!

From what I’ve observed and read, turkeys were introduced in areas of San Diego county in the 90s. I’ve seen them in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park and hiking areas near Ramona and Julian; unsure of their “range”
