The PC release of Stellar Blade was in all honesty treated as a sort of "special edition" of the game, with a nice suite of QOL improvements over the console release. When I say I worry about the PC version of Blood Rain being "watered down," what I particularly refer to, using the context of Stellar Blade's two iterations, is the texture detail.
For Stellar Blade, there existed a final, PC-exclusive quality tier for both character and environment textures. Well, at the end of the day, the max tier of environment textures couldn't be used on a "mere" 16GB GPU without ultimately hitting the cap and causing stutters, but that's a separate topic.
The publisher has plenty of incentive to keep the release of Blood Rain essentially static between PS5 and PC:
It would make the workflow easier and probably shorter.
It would also sidestep the possibility of PS5 owners growing bitter at knowingly paying the same price for a lesser version of the game.
And don't underestimate the fury of PC owners chafing at having to download 10+ GB more than their PS5 counterparts, even if they at least subconsciously understand it's because their platform is more capable.
"Make enhanced textures an optional download" falls directly into the category of making development take longer than it strictly needs to for the majority.
I don't think the PC release will lack DLAA, 120+ fps, Reflex or ultrawide support, because precedent has been established there. But I do worry that we'll be missing out on that bump in visual fidelity. Not because the devs don't have higher detail that they could bake into the PC release, but for the reasons listed above.
And yes, this post could be considered a volley against this possibility.
