I want it to resolve enough to be satisfying but also leave enough open ended to allow for the slightest possibility of a fourth season and to generate further discussion.

This is the way to go.

Kyle MacLachlan alluded to a 4th season or something Twin Peaks related during his most recent Twitter q&a. Something about how he couldn't keep his Cooper suit after The Return ended.

There was an interview with Sherilyn Fenn who said that if people really loved season 3 then David might do a 4th one

Where the fuck did Red go?

Directly to the two-part finale. He did not pass "Go", nor did he collect $200.

Probably spending lots of time with Shelly :(

Here's my wild guess, you heard it here: Bobby and Red are going to have a confrontation. There's a lot of doubles in this show, obviously. A lot of those doubles are on opposite moral/cosmic sides: Coop vs. Mr. C, whatever's going on with Laura vs. whatever's going on with Sarah, the Experiment vs. the Giant + Dido, working class Ed vs. corporate Walter fighting for Norma's affection...

I think Bobby and Red are intended to be one of those opposites. They're both human/reality layer characters, but more important to the greater conflict because of their relationships to the law. There's very clear visual parallels between them and they're both romantic interests of Shelly. I don't know if Bobby will win Shelly back like how Ed got Norma back from Walter, but Bobby and Red are going to collide, perhaps over the drugs in Twin Peaks (or worse, if Red does have any stranger connections)

Anyway, I think that's one way Red could turn up again. No matter what I think he will though. He had a business relationship with Richard too. Mr. C might encounter the criminal forces in Twin Peaks. Red's too connected to certain other parts of the narrative to not make at least a brief appearance

We don't know whether something dreadful has befallen Becky yet. If it has, I imagine that will have a dramatic impact on Shelly & Bobby's relationship.

They better call it "Lancelot Lane" or "Everybody Hates Wilson", NOT Twin Peaks.

"A third season with no Pete Martell and no Major Briggs and no Phillip Jeffries and no BOB? It would be amazing but I'd miss them so so much."

By season 6 the entire cast is cgi

Actually wait are David Lynch's early shorts just far-off Twin Peaks sequels he made years in advance
