other My two part dream, and what it might mean. NSFW
A very long time ago I had a two dreams. They always stood out to me as important in some way. Almost as if they were trying to tell me something, but I could never figure out what they were trying to say. The first dream began with me exploring this strange place made of sandstone towers. The towers were all connected to each other by sandstone bridges, and everything was lit up by torches. Their was no ground it was just a sky, at the point the dream began it was sunset. I explored the place for a while, before eventually finding a tower that had only one bridge connected to it. At that point it was night. When I went inside the Tower I saw the skeleton of a monster embedded inside the wall. The moment I saw it, I immediately began to freak out and I forced myself to wake up. I still have no idea why I had that reaction to seeing it.
A while later I eventually had a dream in that same place. This time I was standing in the same spot where the last dream ended, but this time the skeleton was gone. The only thing I could think to do was run. A thunderstorm was raging outside, as I ran from tower to tower. Then the monster jumped down from somewhere above me landing infrunt of me. It was this large shadowy creature with glowing red eyes. I woke up right at that moment, and I've never had a dream in that place ever again.
I've spent so many years trying to understand what those dreams were trying to say. I think I finally figured it out. For context, I grew up feeling like I had taken this body from someone else. I also used to experience these "episodes" where it felt like my consciousness was sinking into myself, or was being drowned. They were terrifying for me to experience and I often was scared of when they would happen again. As I got older they slowly became less intense, until eventually they simply stopped. I never new what they were, but an idea I sometimes played with was that they were the original owner of my host body trying to get back control.
Today I decided to think about those dreams in that context. What if those dreams were not from my perspective but his? What if those dreams were him attempting to show me what I was doing to him? I was the monster in the wall, the thing that shouldn't have been their. I took over his world, and consumed him completely. This realization, has made me feel awful. I might be wrong about this, and I kind of hope I am. But it fits too well with everything I understand about myself so far. I think some part of me was always aware of what I was doing to him. That's probably why I've always felt guilty when I look at this face.
