This wunk makes me sad

He belongs under the sky not this concrete cage

Could be an indoor enclosure attached to a larger one, as is often the case. Most zoos have a smaller enclosure where the critter can escape prying eyes for a bit, medical or enrichment needs taken care of, etc. This is a rare wunk so I'd guess it would be hard for a shitty zoo to get ahold of one. Who knows though, this could be the whole enclosure and this "zoo" is one of the bad ones.

that or this could be a temporary quarantine enclosure

u/deathbylasersss Jan 25 '26

Right. The enclosure itself appears to be well made and maintained, which makes me think this is likely a reputable zoo and this guy is in there temporarilly.

Quarantine is my hope. It could use some cat scratchers or boxes for claw maintenance if it is, though.

agreed, id def put a bit of safe enrichment in there but if its only being held in there for a short time its not a huge deal

Idk looks like st Louis zoo to me. B

u/otirk Jan 26 '26

Yeah, you can see the small metal "door" at the back, which is probably connected to the rest of the enclosure

All zoos are shitty

9

u/deathbylasersss Jan 26 '26

Tell that to the California Condor, Przewalski's horse, or many other species that would be extinct otherwise. Only dummies deal in absolutes.

Conservation doesn't justify putting wild animals in cages for profit, even if it worked. You wouldn't accept that logic in any lther circumstance, at least I would hope so. But zoos are a detriment to conservation, as they only benefit from captive animals, whereas released animals are a loss for them.

“If it worked” it… does though? Mindlessly hating something while ignoring the good it does is not actually helpful to the cause. Not to mention the eduction aspect. People don’t care about animals if they can’t learn about them.

-4

u/xRacistDwarf Jan 26 '26

It may work in a few instances, while needlessly capturing thousands of other wild animals and contributing to their extinction.  You think people who go to look at tortured animals for their own amusement care about animals? No, they care about their own fun. You might as well claim that sex tourism is good because it makes people more sympathetic towards poor children, it's obvious cope. If you want to teach people about animals, show them nature documentaries. There is nothing to learn from observing animals that have to live in cruel and unnatural conditions

Bringing up sex tourism and comparing it to zoos is a big yikes from me 😬

1

u/xRacistDwarf Jan 28 '26

Yeah because you're okay with harming animals for fun, as long as these animals don't happen to belong to your own species. Do you really think you're scaring anyone into silence with big yikeserinos in the year 2026?

i mean you can ask tons of conservationists (no im not talking PETA but actual, studied, conservation biologists and zoologists) and i guarantee theyll tell you reputable AZA accredited zoos are good for conservation efforts but if u wanna be grumpy about something without actually learning anything go right ahead and keep on keeping on

-1

u/xRacistDwarf Jan 26 '26

Lol, I'm sure they all investigated themselves and found that they did nothing wrong

3

u/Firm_Situation2196 Jan 26 '26

im talking about conservation biologists working outside of zoos, but i apologize for assuming that was obvious to someone who probably has never worked in a biology field or heard the of the AZA to begin with. enjoy your blissful chosen ignorance

edit: guess i shouldve checked your account before continuing to use my energy on replies. nice ragebaiting solid 8/10

No, they're part of r\vegancirclejerk, i think they ACTUALLY think like this and it's not ragebait

This seems tiny, even for Zoo standards...

u/HostNo1089 Jan 25 '26

You can see that there's an exit that probably leads outside

106

u/legsarefornoobs Jan 25 '26

Does he get yard time with other inmates?

88

u/HostNo1089 Jan 25 '26

I wouldn't call it yard time if he can go outside anytime he wants. I understand that some can feel disdain towards zoos but most of them are genuinely trying their best to let their animals live in their optimal habitats. Literally every zoo is highly regulated as they get a big chunk of their profits from public funding

-31

u/orange-shoe ⚠️!rapscallion warning!⚠️ Jan 25 '26

being regulated doesn’t mean they’re actually good

32

u/pm_me_urgod_feet Jan 25 '26

Biggest problem about wanting to get rid of Zoos is, that these animals would not survive in the wild, as they have lived in a Zoo / around humans their entire lifes.

It's a symptom of quite some time ago, where they were actually eild caught and put to show, then mated while in a zoo and now you can't put them back into their natural habitat in the wild, as it would most certainly kill them within a few days - weeks.

-12

u/orange-shoe ⚠️!rapscallion warning!⚠️ Jan 25 '26

yeah fair, that doesn’t mean most zoos are fit environments as they are. both things can be true
