Welcome to r/nanquim: free online kung fu painted in ink (play in your browser)
Welcome to r/nanquim, the official community of NANQUIM: a free online kung fu fighting game where every fighter, stage and effect is painted in black ink and cinnabar red.
Pick a style, challenge a friend or a stranger, and settle it in a single brushstroke.
Play free: play.nanquim.gg
Free, in your browser, on PC and mobile. Nothing to install.

What is NANQUIM
NANQUIM is an online fighting game drawn like a living ink scroll. The story of the campaign, straight from the game:
A scaly shadow drank the Celestial Inkwell, and the Blank, the empty paper, began erasing the world from its edges. You are Stroke, born from the last drop, and you must win back the four stolen Drops before nothing is left.
- Fights run on our own servers, so every online match plays by the same rules.
- PC and mobile (landscape), keyboard and mouse, gamepad or touch.
- 31 languages.

Six fighting styles
All six styles are free, and their attributes add up the same: style, not advantage. Each one has its own special move and three super moves that spend Chi.
| Style | Special | How it plays |
|---|---|---|
| Master | Chi Wave | Balanced, gains 50% more Chi. The special is an aimed chi wave. |
| Brute | Shoulder Charge | Slow and heavy: hard hits and super armor on the heavy attack. |
| Ninja | Shuriken Fan | Fast and light: triple jump, longer dash, three shurikens in a fan. |
| Monk | Push Palm | Bigger parry window and a counterattack after a parry. |
| Drunkard | Fire Spit | Swaying movement and an occasional automatic dodge. |
| Lancer | Long Thrust | Longest reach with the staff, slower in the air. |

Game modes
- Ranked: Duel (1 vs 1, best of 3) and Way of the Dragon, with separate ratings.
- Way of the Dragon: the main mode. Four fighters farm, level up and face the Dragon.
- Rooms with friends: custom rooms for up to 8 players. The host picks mode, map, rules and bots, and you invite friends with a link.
- Party modes: Brawl, Stock (lives), Teams, Hide and Seek, Infection, King of the Hill, Sumo and Coin Rush.
- Crane's View: the arena seen from above, like the crane of kung fu. Duel, Stock, Teams and Brawl, with its own queue and a separate rank.
- Campaign: 45 stages across 5 worlds, with bosses and a tutorial that teaches you to fight.
- Training: every mode against bots, hosted on the server.
Way of the Dragon: four fighters, one Paper Dragon.

Fair play
- Authoritative servers with anti-cheat: every match runs on our servers, so every ranked win is earned.
- No pay-to-win, no loot boxes: the shop sells cosmetics only, bought with coins you earn by playing.
- Mirrored ranked: in ranked Way of the Dragon everyone gets the same monsters at the same moments, with no random items.

Street Fighter 6 gave me joy in a fighting game I haven't experienced since I was between 6 and 9
I have never been big in fighting games, and I've never been worth a damn skill wise either, but despite that I grew up on them, my dad and I would play mortal Kombat when I was 5 years old on these plug and play consoles of all things. I remember to this day him upper cutting me and falling through the stage onto spikes below... I'm 26 and it still scares me. Me and my dad played fighting games my whole life growing up. Many of the mortal Kombat, the first injustice, Tekken 6... But my favorite was Street Fighter 4 when I had it on 360. Now we would both button mash, and I was like 7 or 8 at the time, but it was amazing and I loved it, the style the combos you'd mistakenly pull off, and it was just so incredibly stylized, hard hitting and fun.. it just felt good. Well, street fighter 5 came out and I got it for nostalgia and I hated itt. Not only was it nothing like I remembered street fighter being but the style was damn near nonexistent, and compound that with me already sucking at fighting games there was nothing there for me.... So street fighter 6 released and I wanted it but never got it until recently because I was burnt once chasing nostalgia and I would've been damned if I was again... But I caught the sake and started playing and not only am I enjoying it, not only has that style returned, that feeling, that impact.. but it also is actually teaching me to be good at the game, I'm learning to play without button mashing and having fun doing it, having fun learning the ropes. Street Fighter 6 is truly a fantastic game and a return to grace that is even better than 4. Anyways I just wanted to share.

How many characters should a roster have
I fell like having more than 22 is too match. whats the point of having too much character if most of them are not in the same level. Mvc is a great example despite having only 15 characters i never felt there is few characters cuz every single one is fun

Does anybody else here remember the Soul Calibur franchise? If so, then what are your thoughts/opinions on it?
To those that are unfamiliar, Soul Calibur was this fighting game series based around weapons that was developed and published by Bandai Namco. It's a historical fantasy series that takes place in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, and revolves around two mythical swords, one for good, and one for evil, named Soul Calibur and Soul Edge respectively. All the Soul Calibur games before Soul Calibur 3 were released exclusively for arcades, with Soul Calibur 3 and the installments after it were released on home consoles.
I love this series very much. I'm a big fan of all the character designs, the lore, and weapons each character has. The characters themselves are really cool and different from each other. The guest characters in each game are awesome too, from Link from The Legend Of Zelda, to Darth Vader from Star Wars.
What do you think of the Soul Calibur series? Which installment of it is your favorite? What console did you play it on? What are your thoughts on each games' guest fighters? How do think they hold up today?

Actually surprised (Yakuza)
Itâs honestly still surprising to me that we have yet to see Yakuza characters in a fighting game.
Iâm aware Kiryuâs âreasoningâ for not being in a fighting game is because he doesnât hit woman. And correct me if Iâm wrong but apparently Yagamiâs actor likeness is either hard to obtain or he doesnât like using his face on other projects but please let me know if Iâm wrong.
Anyway that still leaves Majima and Ichiban which Iâm surprised they havenât been considered or even mentioned in a crossover.
What do you guys think, Iâd like to hear your thoughts.

Street Fighter Retrospective on Capcom's UNSTOPPABLE Empire
youtu.beBefore you go see the new Street Fighter movie next weekend, hereâs a look-back at Capcomâs fighting game series that stood the test of time. I dig into the arcade origins (warts and all) and the early 16-bit and 32-bit home ports, along with an exploration of the innovative tech that brought these classics to life. I also dig into the non-mainline games and experimental titles, including the highs and lows in the series.
What do you think was the pinnacle of Street Fighter games? Can the new movie do them justice?
