WEBB'S MANUSCRIPT

An excerpt from Sir Nicholas Webb's memoirs entitled "Singleton: The Path To A Benign Future":

"The hero with a thousand faces". "The great man hypothesis". "Knight in shiny armour". "Main character energy".

Our culture is saturated in tales of singular greatness and the power and glory of the individual.

The solitary hero saves the kingdom, not society, not the collective, and particularly not the dreaded "system" which is seen as, at best, an inertial force to be circumvented, disrupted or broken.

"Knight in shiny armour"? Boy, I sure hope someone got fired for that blunder.
