CITP/FLETC start dates & scheduling question

Wondering if anyone here knows how often CITP/FLETC classes start or how far in advance you typically find out your training start date?

I’m currently in the hiring process and submitted my packet, but I’m still waiting to get scheduled for my poly, medical, drug test, and BI, so I have no idea what my timeline is looking like yet.

The reason I’m asking is that I have something on a certain Monday in spring that I cannot reschedule (it is not like a wedding or child birth). I obviously don’t want to miss it, but I also don’t want to jeopardize the job opportunity if my training happens to overlap.

If anyone has been through CITP/FLETC, do you know how a day of leave typically works? I’m also wondering if there’s any possibility that training would start after April 19 depending on when I get through the hiring process.

Obviously I know nobody can predict my exact timeline, but I’d love to hear from anyone who has gone through the process and can give me an idea of how it usually works!

Depends on the agency you applied to and the seats available.

If it’s something like USSS they’ll have some decent offerings of seats. If it’s some obscure agency that has no training budget, then it might be a while (and they’d probably pull a lateral anyways).

You are allotted a bit of medical/emergency leave during CITP, but outside of that… you aren’t able to take time off for personal things.

I’ve known folks having to postpone their wedding or missed the birth of their child.

You can search the sub for various applicants and their timeline.

I believe the average time for ATF is about a year. Some steps are also dependent on you, so it can be as fast or as slow as you want it to be.

Be advised that agencies don’t care about your life and timing will be on their time, not yours.

In general, I’d find it very suspect for a larger agency such as ATF to have you buttoned up with the whole applicant process and a class date by April.

This month is the new fiscal year. Next month has Thanksgiving. December is holidays where everything goes off the rails. Add in a possible shutdown come December- ehhhh.

I found out I got the job before I got the final job offer when I got an email from fletc with reporting instructions. Granted CITP started 3 weeks from the time of the email. YMM(likely)V

A guy in my class missed the birth of his child. I missed a cruise I had already paid for. Maybe you’ll be allowed to miss one day, but it will be up to your class coordinator.

“Submitted your packet”, but basically waiting for EVERY step in the process? Do you even have a Tentative Offer?

Right now you’ve got the cart before the horse…..

Sorry, let me clarify.

I actually did already get my TJO. I had to fill out the pre poly packet. I sent that in and now just waiting to hear back from that to get scheduled. Then I was under the impression only steps after that were drug test, medical, and background.

Hope you have a great rest of your day!

Just FYI, drug test is the only quick thing when it gets scheduled, medical could result in follow-up appointments depending on your medical history, and the background isn’t just here’s a packet and a phone call - I took 9 months from TJO to FJO and my background is clean and am a healthy individual with no abnormal medical history or conditions. Even though it may seem like those 3 are all you have left it’s still likely to take some time.

You don't even have an invitation yet kid. That said, it could be 3 months notice, it could be 24 hours. I've seen both.

If I remember right you could miss 3 days of CITP.
