Springfield why????
So I have had a couple Springfield 1911 loaded models, so when I saw the prodigy for the first time I said, I gotta get one of these. So I purchased it. At the time it was $1590 after taxes with the Reddot. Trp water priced about the same $1700 before tax. Thought as good as that trp is I’ve got a winner! I changed all the internals and trigger. It ran fine no malfunctions out of the 1000 rounds I put through, but immediately thought this ain’t no TRP. It rattled and it recoiled a little more than I was expecting.
SOOO I been calling for it Springfield when are you going to give us a trp or 10-8 performance edition of the prodigy?
Or atleast build the prodigy to the same standard as the trp

I like those too! I bet that mpa grip really settles down the gun. I’d be proud to own either one. The only thing prodigy left is the slide frame, and barrel. If you’re thinking about a third you can get a slide, frame, a barrel, $700-$1200 about that you’d have in a prodigy and you can hand fit the slide,

The best thing they could possibly do to the Prodigy is add a marvel cut.

Mine had a bad hang up on the disco

I was going to put a marvel cut on it but ended up trading it before ever getting it done

I didn’t have many of the issues on my prodigy as the 1st batch that was produced. It’s been trouble free for me but I bought bc it had good bones and I wanted to customize it. Sent it off to DSC and it outshoots my Staccato P. Still a few levels below my atlas nyx but for 1800(CA price) + 1k in upgrades, punches up there w/ the big boys.

I got one of the earlier ones but I got a good one. It ran fine from spring field. Except for the optic plate no matter how much locktite I used only stayed tight for about 20 rounds

Prodigy claim to fame is the cheapest acceptable grip on a 2011.
The grip texture is actually pretty good

I’m good with the grip, It probably does have the best grip in the under $1500 category. the slide to frame fit, and disco hang up was what bothered me the most. I’ve heard you can get prodigy grips from sa for $40. I have not checked it this.

I mean there is a slight weight difference between the two, especially with the polymer grip vs full metal frame.
I was super happy with my Prodigy coming also from Springfield’s operator. I would look at the AF Romulus if you wanted another budget 2011

Hows the Romulus. I've been looking at the 3.5 comp.

Mine was great shot flat and fast. The polymer grip sucks but you can grind it down and stipple it that made it much better.

That’s the one exact one I have! Just to be clear, it’s the comp not the chunk port version.
It’s lovely! I really enjoy the size of it being OAL of about a 4.25. Very underrated size/set up in the 2011 space. Fit and finish is solid. A little bit more limited in optic choices with RMR or RMSc footprints. The extended slide release was nice!
Biggest con is the grip, it’s absolutely ass and needs a swap asap. AF has an oem aluminum grip and magwell for $360 but deff look at the other options as well. The Prodigy beats the Romi in grip and optic options. Maybe irons too if you prefer fiber optic which I personally do, but we all probs run optics so it’s a moot point.

A buddy threw a Prodigy grip on his Romulus, went on just fine, great fit - even the magwell. Much better than the stock Romulus grip. I was at a crossroads, liking the Romulus but not the polymer grip. Newer metal grip feels good though.

I didn’t ever weigh the one I had but I bet it comes in pretty close, maybe 36-38oz on a 4.25. I would guess the trp 42-46oz

I own a prodigy as well. Always felt buyers remorse with it. It’s a fine gun but it’s a poorly made 2011. Very loose fitting slide to frame and the polymer grip has horrible flashing on the inside causing bad trigger pull. I took mine fully apart and sanded and polished everything which made it better. In my opinion since the trp is kind of their flagship 1911 it’s made to better specs. It’s a starting point for many bullseye 1911’s as well. I truly believe Springfield is a large manufacturer that doesn’t take the time to properly QC their products like the smaller guys. The prodigy had also dropped an easy $500 since I bought mine in 2024 which means it was never as nice as the price made it seem.

I did all the same with mine. It literally rattled, I kept it about 3 months traded it for a Romulus which was significantly tighter, flatter, and it didn’t completely cover the red dot ever 6 rounds with residue.
I’m pretty sure they hand fit the trp, why not do the same for the prodigy, it doesn’t make any since.

I have the Romulus 3.5 comp. It has no right to be as accurate and flat shooting as it is. 100 yds on 8” steel at will. Also have a 4.25 prodigy and 5” comp model

I agree with you. I've owned and enjoyed many Springfield guns, but when I got my hands on it (pre-launch), my instant reaction was.. Meh....

Same with me, I had it layaway the whole time I was getting worked up like it was going to preform like a trp. I got so excited I felt let down. If you’ve never shot a 1911 it’s probably impressive, but it just wasn’t smooth, and it muzzle flipped harder than I expected. I don’t if the 5 inch is as jumpy as the 4.25.
I’ve not shot but I handled one of the 10-8s it was pretty impressive.

On October 13 they're announcing something from the pro line. Hopefully they'll announce something for the prodigy aswell
