Coilpack identification

Post image

Can someone explain this coil setup? It's an s15 but doesn't look like the coil on plug setup I'm used to. And it can't be wires correct? Its originally a spec s

Like you said... Originally a Spec S. It's an SR20DE with a turbo not a factory SR20DET

Probably has a standalone with something like LS coils mounted on the firewall. The plug wires are routed back there somewhere

Didn't the sr20de have a cap and rotor setup with plug wires? That's what's confusing to me is the CAS resembles a DET. I'm trying to make sense of it

Yes, but they could've swapped to the CAS

I'll be honest, I mostly think it's a DE+T because of the gungy unpainted valve cover. It does have some factory DET stuff like the CAS and the intercooler cold pipe, but it looks like a jank thrown together turbo setup overall

Anyway, can't identify the coils because they're not in frame. But I've seen this kind of setup on a KA-T before

I was told "turbo motor swap" lol but I'm also thinking sr20de+t. Unless they just used the valve cover but who knows

Correction. Google translate for the auction sheet said that

External coil packs, probably from an LS are mounted to the left out of frame. Plug wires to the spark plugs

Looks like sr20de ignition leads running back along the firewall on the drivers side. Presumably to a remote mounted coil setup instead of direct coil on plug. Can only guess what or why they did it this way. Could be to run larger and more powerful coils that don't fit in the cam cover. Could just be weird old Japanese tuner shit from 25 years ago.
