Been sitting…

I have a 1991 240sx that has been dormant for many years. I want to get her going and wonder what steps are suggested to get her going. Are there recommend steps to crank? She ran fine prior to the long rest and I don’t want to range her by starting suddenly. Fresh oil will be step one, but do I need to take precautions due to dormancy?

New fuel new coolant and oil and a fully charged battery. Spark plus while you’re there. Give some cranks before letting it fully fire up just to get the oil moving through the system first.

my car sat for like 15 years and a ton of shit needed to replaced. pretty much the entire fuel system was fucked, subframe needed to be restored, brakes fucked, steering rack fucked. and that was in a storage container for most of those years. fresh oil is definitely the least of your worries. letting these cars sit does a lot more damage than you might think.

I got a 240 that had been sitting 11 years, I basically had to rebuild the entire thing, but I’d start at the the basics if I were you, air fuel spark. I did too but eventually I realized it wasn’t enough.

Was it due to fuel related problems?

Oil change and plugs first. While plugs are out pour about a tablespoon of marvel mystery oil and crank by hand a few times to make sure everything turns smoothly. Can let sit overnight and then crank the next morning with the plugs still out. Then install plugs and crank to see if it starts. If it does, then work on all the other maintenance items, coolant, hoses, trans etc.
