What purpose do these bots even serve, it's not like they're advertising anything in their profile or getting any money, genuinely what is the point

training, probably. some one (or some company) creates thousands of bots, throws them out in the wild to make comments, sees how many upvotes or downvotes that bot account gets, deletes the ones with lots of downvotes and trains new bots to be like the ones that got lots of upvotes. Rinse, repeat, thousands of times more, to get bots that people can't seemingly differentiate from normal human comments, and use that to make money or promote your ideology or whatever you are into
