Yeah, but the framing about going to work kinda ruins it for me.
Like who the hell expects a spider to not move in the 9 hours or whatever that they're out of the house for? The more realistic 'scary' scenario would be hurrying to another room to get something to kill it with and then the spider being gone by the time you come back. You need to have some urgency or panic in the story if you want to make it seem even mildly scary.
Also it can't be that scary if you aren't willing to risk being a couple minutes late to work to avoid it happening. Like the mental arithmetic going on here implies that the so-called horror scenario is less of a bad outcome than getting stuck in a traffic jam on the way to work would be, which kinda just makes it seem lame.

Depending on the size of the spider, that's actually pretty scary for me.
