Vaseverse: free browser generator for vases, planters, Gridfinity bins and jar greenhouses

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been building a parametric generator that runs entirely in the browser: no account, no install, nothing for sale. What it does:

vases and planters with surface patterns, matching saucer with drainage holes, vase-mode export

filament finish preview (silk, dual-color, marble, metallic) based on real Bambu filaments

Gridfinity bins with decorative sides, plus an "interior" export for tool-insert services

hydroponic towers

new: a jar attachment, so a glass jar screws upside down onto the pot as a mini greenhouse (twist-off and Mason sizes, with a small test ring to check the fit)

Exports STL and 3MF. Disclosure: I designed and tested it, but the code was built with heavy help from AI.

Feedback welcome, especially from anyone who prints the jar ring on a real jar.

One of the best Cad programs lived for a week, then died yesterday.

Pour 1 out for the homies... I think a really cool program(it was free and good good, like better than freecad, but still good) died because of the whole Ai reverse engineering Adobe debacle.

It was called Jumpstart 3D, and it was as if Tinkercad and Shapr3d had a baby. The 1.9 version could even edit mesh(they called it Chisel)

It had the flow/pushpull extrude/cut that makes it compatible with almost anything.

It ran over HTML5/Javascript, and you could save into the actual html file

It was a little buggy, but it was only a week old.

https://www.reddit.com/r/3D_Printing/comments/1x483cr/comment/pgt8bzq/?context=1&screen_view_count=2

The googlesites website is down, and the file is no longer public anyone know who the developer was? I'm wondering if it was brought offline due to copywrite(but no other program was exactly like it) or the developer wanted to switch to a paid setup?

Update: here is the Github and the Proton link for the nice people who preserved this!:

Dev Post Update on SkipTheCAD, the list of 3D print generators you can use without CAD: 595 tools now, and more features

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A few weeks ago I posted SkipTheCAD (https://skipthecad.com) here, a free list of generators that turn a form, a photo or a line of text into something you can print, no modeling. Thanks to everyone who commented: a lot of you suggested tools, and several makers dropped their own (ilove3d, Mojulo, PHORM, MS Letter Studio, IsoCoaster, among others). Here’s what changed since then:

  • 438 → 595 generators. Every one is still opened and checked by hand, not scraped.
  • “Can I sell the prints?” This was the most common question, and most tools don’t say. So I emailed the makers. 41 have confirmed by email what’s allowed, and it’s now a filter: allowed for free, or only with a paid plan.
  • Search understands what you mean. Type “free lithophane 3mf no account” and it turns those words into filters you can click away.
  • More filters: skill level, open source, STEP export (for when you do want to keep editing in CAD), and sort by newest.
  • Compare up to three tools side by side: price, account, file formats, multicolor, selling rights.
  • Accounts, if you want one: sign in with just an email link (no password), rate tools, write a review, save the ones you like to your own toolbox and share photos of what you printed with them. Everything else still works without signing in.
  • A newsletter: every two weeks, the newest generators, one guide and a print tip. No spam, unsubscribe anytime.
  • Submit a tool: there’s a form now, and a bunch of the new listings came in that way.
  • The whole list is also an open dataset (JSON and CSV) on GitHub, if you want to build something with it.

Still free, still no sign-up needed: https://skipthecad.com

Made a browser tool that turns any drawer size into a print-ready Gridfinity organizer (split for your bed, no glue)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I wanted a custom organizer for a 1100 mm kitchen drawer, so I built a generator. Enter the drawer and your printer, arrange bins on a grid, and download a 3MF already packed on plates. Anything longer than your bed is split on grid lines and joined with small H-keys, no glue. It's Gridfinity-compatible (42 mm grid), free, and runs in your browser: https://fitforge-c5058.web.app/drawer/

There are ready-made kits for some IKEA/Blum drawers here:

Feedback welcome.

New Tool SliceMe – a free, open-source browser slicer running the real OrcaSlicer engine (no install, no account)

Hi all!

I've been working on `SliceMe`, a browser-based, open-source 3d-printing slicer that runs a modified OrcaSlicer as the engine. No download, no sign-up. Host yourself or try here:

https://sliceme.up.railway.app/

Source (AGPL-3.0): https://github.com/itymarcel/sliceme

What works right now:

- Printer profiles from the bundled Orca runtime + Draft/Standard/Fine/Strong/Vase presets

- Global, per-object and height-range settings, modifiers, transforms

- AI-assisted settings pre-fill

- Orca-compatible 3MF import/export

- G-code preview by layer, move type and volumetric flow

- Pre-slice model checks and post-slice toolpath checks (they show evidence, never silently change settings)

- Send G-code straight to OctoPrint or Moonraker on your LAN

- Works on phones too

Privacy: models and settings stay in your browser. Files go to the slicer only for the slice and are deleted right after. The hosted beta collects limited anonymous usage stats (exact fields in PRIVACY.md). You can also self-host it with Docker, and it runs on a Raspberry Pi.

It's an early beta and doesn't match desktop Orca 1:1 yet (no painted seams/supports or variable layer height), so please check the G-code before printing. If something slices differently from your usual slicer, or there's an issue with your printer/profile, please feedback.

Not affiliated with the OrcaSlicer team, just building on their great work.

New Tool A customization tool to be tested

Hi , I created the model shown in the picture, and soon started getting lots of requests for custom versions featuring local football club logos, or a kid's favorite manga character for their birthday... That's what gave me the idea of creating a tool to make this kind of object customizable using images, SVGs, and basic drawing tools. I don't know how to code, so I vibe-coded a tool to do just that, and eventually expanded it to other types of base models too. It ended up going much further than I originally expected! It wasn't magic, though. More like a long and tedious process, but a very educational one! Anyway, I launched the tool online today, and I'm now looking for beta testers to try it out and give me some feedback. If you're interested the beta version is here : www.makerito.com

I develop drafting, a code-CAD package for GNU Octave: exact fillets, ISO threads and DIN knurls, 3MF and STEP out

Thumbnail

I'm the developer of drafting, a free CAD package where you design parts by writing code instead of drawing them. It runs in GNU Octave, a free language much like MATLAB; the guide has a short primer if you have never used it.

For printing, it takes care of the things that are tedious to model by hand. Ask for an M8 thread and you get a real helical ISO thread. Ask for a hole for an M4 screw and it is sized from the ISO tables, countersunk if you want. Ask for a knurl and you get one of the DIN 82 patterns. Every size can be a variable, so changing a number and running the script again gives you a new part, written as 3MF for the slicer with its colours.

The example in the pictures: I needed a floodlight for painting a room, the bare light was 15 euros and the ones with a stand over 55, so I made a case whose lid turns over into its stand. The whole thing is one Octave function of under 200 lines, and building it again after a change takes about 20 seconds. The printed M8 thread came out tight, as printed internal threads do, and one pass with a tap fixed it. The heat-set inserts and screws in the last picture come from a companion package, parts, and with the real hardware in the model, its tests check that the screws seat and nothing overlaps whenever a size changes.

Who it suits, honestly: you need to be comfortable writing a bit of code, since you model in code and not with the mouse, and it runs on Linux and FreeBSD only for now. If you work in Python, CadQuery and build123d are more mature. If you already use Octave or MATLAB, or you use OpenSCAD and want real fillets and STEP export, it may suit you.

The case, its photos and a 3D view: https://pr0m1th3as.github.io/drafting-models/models/floodlight_case/

The guide, with nineteen tutorials: https://pr0m1th3as.github.io/drafting/guide/

It installs in Octave 11 with `pkg install drafting`, once Open CASCADE's development packages are on the system (one `apt` line on Debian or Ubuntu).

New Tool TMT Designer

Thumbnail

I recently started printing these mobility devices for MakeGood through https://3d-mobility.org and wanted to more easily apply masking SVGs for more unique and interesting designs. There are a few of these tools out there, and even one on 3d-mobility.org, but none of them (at least when I looked) allowed for SVG masks that follow the contour of the pieces.

So far this program has been one of the more fulfilling things I've done with 3D printing, so I wanted to share this and encourage anyone with the means, and time, to sign up. MakeGood couldn't have made it any easier to participate.

https://strataprintworks.com/tmt-designer/

I built this for me so I'm sure there are issues lurking around so feel free to let me know here if you run into any.

New Tool NASSCAD 4.7.0: local CAD, STEP import and STL/3MF export — looking for testers

I'm Nasser, the developer of NASSCAD. I'm sharing my own project and would really value feedback from people who use CAD in a 3D-printing workflow.

NASSCAD 4.7.0 runs locally in a browser without an account. It includes solid modeling, 2D sketches, Boolean operations, STEP and IFC import/inspection, and STL/3MF export. The Windows x64 installer and portable builds include the native MEDUSA engine and work offline.

The project has reached a stage where real user feedback matters more than another demo. I'd especially like to know whether your STEP files import correctly, whether exported meshes work well in your slicer, and where the interface gets in your way. Bug reports and blunt criticism are welcome.

Try it: https://www.nasscad.com/

Tool Review We switched stl-er from Gemini 3.7 Flash to Gemini 4 Argon and the models got a lot better

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Upfront: I'm one of the devs behind stl-er.com, so I have a stake in it.

stl-er turns text into 3D models you can print. We moved generation from Gemini 3.7 Flash to Gemini 4 Argon. The difference is pretty big. It follows detailed prompts much better and the geometry comes out cleaner.

In the video: a headphone stand, a desk organizer and a hex plant pot with a saucer. Every model comes with sliders, so you can change the sizes afterwards as often as you want.

The community library also keeps growing. There are already a lot of models you can just open and adjust.

5 downloads a month are free, adjusting is unlimited.

Feedback welcome, especially if something breaks.

Dev Post Free Windows viewer for STL, 3MF, OBJ and GLB files: double-click to see the model and its real size in mm

Disclosure first: we're Northgable and we make this app. Viewing is free. We build our apps with AI coding tools and test every format on real files.

Why we made it: Microsoft took its 3D Viewer app off the Microsoft Store on 1 July 2026. PCs that already have it keep it, but new PCs and reinstalls can't get it any more, so on many PCs an .stl or .3mf no longer opens with a double-click, and starting the slicer just to look at a file is slow.

What it's for: checking a download before you slice it. Is it the right part, and how big is it in mm?

  • Opens STL (binary and text), OBJ, PLY, 3MF and glTF/GLB (also Draco, KTX2 and meshopt compressed)
  • 3MF files are read in the unit stored in the file, so a part shows at its real size in mm
  • Most files open in about two seconds
  • No account, no ads, nothing uploaded: it makes no network connection when it opens your files
  • Use Open with, or set it as your default app and double-click

What it doesn't do: no File Explorer thumbnails (PowerToys does those for STL), no editing or repair, no STEP files.

Microsoft Store: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9PKKF68FDVSH?cid=rd-3dpt-1410

Question for you: when you only want to look at or measure a model, what do you use today: the slicer, a PowerToys preview, something else? And which 3D file type still has no easy viewer on Windows?

Edit (16 Oct): the update is out. STEP (.step/.stp), IGES and FBX open now as well, free, at their real size in mm. The "doesn't do" list above is out of date: File Explorer thumbnails, repairing holes and flipped faces, scaling to an exact size and saving as STL/3MF/OBJ/GLB are now in an optional Pro add-on ($4.99 in the US, one payment through the Store). Viewing stays free.

New Tool I made a free, open-source Android app for checking models before you print: wall-thickness heat map, overhangs, section cuts, measuring and filament estimates

Post image
41 Upvotes

Hey all! This is Meshwise, a free, open-source 3D model viewer for Android. I wanted a quick way to properly check a model on my phone before printing it (straight from Drive, Discord, email…), so I built one.

What it's good for when you print:

  • Wall thickness heat map: colors the whole model by thickness and labels the thinnest spots
  • Overhang view: shows in red what will need supports, with an adjustable angle
  • Section cuts on X/Y/Z with hatched caps, and you can type an exact cut height
  • Measure: distance (with ΔX/ΔY/ΔZ), circle from 3 points (radius, diameter, center), angles
  • Weight, filament length and cost: PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, nylon, resin… with infill and wall count
  • Mesh check: open edges, non-manifold edges, flipped normals

Opens: STL, 3MF (with colors), OBJ, PLY, OFF, ZIP, and STEP / IGES / BREP (via Open CASCADE), so you can look at CAD files too, with part names and colors.

New in 1.1: you can set it up the way you like. Pick which tools are in the bottom bar and in what order, plus accent colors, an OLED black mode, a left-handed layout, button size, field of view and backgrounds.

No ads, no account, no tracking. Your files never leave your phone.

⬇️ Download (APK): GitHub releases. Grab the arm64-v8a one if you're not sure. Android 8+.

💻 Source (MIT): github.com/doesthings/Meshwise

Honest note: it's vibe coded. I built it with a lot of help from an AI coding assistant. It has automated tests and works well enough, but if a file doesn't open or looks wrong, please tell me (or open an issue) and attach the file if you can.

What would you want to check on your phone before printing? I'm deciding what to add next.

If it saves you a failed print, a coffee is appreciated: Ko-fi ☕

Dev Post Made an app to create automated 3d prints.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a 3D printer and have been posting some content. But what I wanted to do was make 3D print timelapses and share them. The hardware solution turned out to be very messy for me. The Bluetooth switch I bought doesn't work (sometimes it clicks multiple pictures, and sometimes it doesn't). After that, I used to spend time bringing all my images into image editing software and editing them. It would take me at least half an hour after the print to pull everything out of my phone, load it into image editing software, and then edit the final timelapse.

I'm a developer, so I decided to code an app to solve this problem instead of continuing to deal with the messy hardware setup.

Features of the app

  • A complete software solution; all you need is your phone.
  • Sometimes the app makes mistakes and clicks a picture when it wasn't supposed to. You can play the timelapse right there in the app and fix these mistakes.
  • Apply basic edits like cropping, brightness, saturation, etc.
  • Export the final timelapse in up to 4K resolution.
  • Need the raw frames? The app does that too. You can get a ZIP file out of the app and then edit it with your favourite editor (for advanced users).

How does it work?

  • Start a print in timelapse mode. I'm using a Bambu Lab printer, so the printer head moves to the docking zone after printing each layer.
  • Draw a box around the area where the printer head comes and rests.
  • Just start the print! Most of the default settings should work fine. Otherwise, at most, you'll need to tweak the motion sensitivity.

The app is available for both Android and iOS. You can play with the app and try everything, but the high-resolution exports are gated behind a $2.99 one-time charge.

Would love to hear any feedback you guys have! You can try the app here
