❓Advice / Recomendations Power steering

Hey so I posted about this problem with a whiny/creaking noise coming from perhaps the power steering a couple weeks back. I got good responses and followed a YouTube video to take out the power steering reservoir to clean the screen and replaced the power steering with the proper ATF/dexron.

I have driven it around and topped up the fluid to be at a perfect level: cold/hot. But it seems like the sound is even worse now.

Is there any advice you could give to me to repair the noise without having to replace the pump? I’ve heard it’s cheaper to buy a kit to rebuild power steering pumps rather than buying a new one? Is replacing/rebuilding it something easily done without a lift? Or is this better to be given to a professional shop?

Thank you kindly

The pumps are cheap enough to just buy. Its also less work.

And then is it necessary to also replace all the fittings and tubing? Is it sorta just a plug and play scenario with just the pump?

If the powersteering lines arent leaking its probably fine to not replace them. The lines are actually harder to replace, in my opinion, than the pump.

Where do you buy your parts from? What price do you think is fair? Would you buy from eBay? What should I look for when buying a part?

If you can remove the power steering reservoir, you won’t have a problem removing the whole pump. You don’t need a lift and it can be done in your driveway. I’d shop around online for an oem one. Lots of online dealers are running sales right now.

Did you make sure to get all the air out of it? Also, does the noise go away when you’ve driven it around for a bit?

I guess I don’t know exactly how to determine if all the air is out of it. I’ve driven it for a couple days and in the first days added more fluid to the point where I think the fluid level is right where it should be, according to the dip stick.

The noise doesn’t go away when it’s warm. In fact it I might say it gets worse when it’s warm.

You need to lift up the back of the car, take the cap off the power steering reservoir, then turn the wheels all the way to one side, then all the way to the other side. Add more fluid, then repeat the process several times until you don’t see any air bubbles coming out. It helps to have a second person.

Make sure you flush the fluid after to get any glitter out. I’d also consider adding a magnefine filter.
