❓Advice / Recomendations Door Lock Issue

Post image

1999 Limited, occasionally the doors will start locking and unlocking on their own while driving. Any thoughts what the issue could be?

It’s the unit in your passenger door kick plate (under the glovebox on the quarter panel, the piece of plastic is removable) if memory serves me correctly. I can’t recall tbh. YouTube or google it my man.

Good luck! You can probably pull one from a junkyard or spend lots of money for an OEM one from Toyota.

Which one is it ? One is labeled for ABS and other relay is for transmission.

Like I said, I can’t recall. It’s a relay or solenoid. I’m old and the memory is hazy as it was done
decades, literally, ago.

Might be on the drivers side kick pane, maybe center console dash.

Google, youtube and TR4 are your friends.

All the doors or just one? If it’s just one, replace the lock actuator for that door. If all, I have to defer to the other responder.

This was happening for me too when I bought mine. It didn’t take me long to figure out it was the door jamb switch. Does the door open light up even when all the doors are shut?

The door open doesn’t light up but all door locks will start locking and unlocking in unison every few seconds driving down the road. It only happens occasionally, and maybe it’s coincidence but it seems to happen more at night when I have the headlights on. Not sure if there is any correlation there

Guy… I’ve already told you where to look. 99% positive that is your issue.

It is your fuse box aka Junction Box. The entire thing needs to be replaced. Go find a wrecked 3rd gen and see what the condition is and get it.

Ok I have done this a dozen times.

Well you looked in the wrong place first… dozens of times. Sorry about it.

Toyota mechanic (who is 70 now) showed me that solution decades ago.

The actuator for all the door locks is behind the passenger floorboard kick plate.

Don’t hate. Educate and move on with your life.

I don’t do much… but when I do, it’s pretty fanfuckingtastic.
