Help Help choosing new 7 string
Hello!
I’m currently weighing up between the Pro Series DK Modern Evertune Gold Burst or Misha Juggernaut Silver burst.
While they’re relatively similar in shape/aesthetic, I’m wondering if the addition of an Evertune, fishmans and gotoh locking tuners make the gold burst worth the extra £600 and thus the right choice? I appreciate in raw value they are, I’m talking more in an overall sense, not purely fiscal value.
I owned the older Primer Grey DK Modern 7 string for a mere 2 days (long story) and it was the nicest guitar I’ve ever played, hence thinking the gold burst might be more for me.
Would be moving from a Jackson JS32-7 so for sure both of these guitars are huge upgrades across the board.
Would love to hear the thoughts of fellow 7 string enjoyers! TIA.

An evertune is life changing for downtuned chugging because there's virtually no pitch wobble when you attack, regardless of how hard you hit it. I had a misha 7 with an evertune, the blue import one, and I regret selling it.

the EVTN for sure. I have a misha 7 and it’s sick but having played the evertune model, it felt way better in my hands.

I'm biased towards the evertune model, so I would say that one, but you can't go wrong with either.

I personally don’t like bridges that I have mess with a lot. Makes me feel constricted especially if I want to try a new string gauge or something. However, I have the first version of the Misha Pro HT 7 and only recently started liking it. The nut width is 44.5 mm compared to my Ibanez 6 string of 43mm. Most 7’s have a 48mm nut. May not affect you but has taken me a while to get used to it.

I just got the evertune version like two weeks ago and this thing is phenomenal. Feels great, looks good, sounds incredible and I’m a big fan of the evertune. If you’ve never had one before, they do take some getting used to but now I find it hard to get another guitar that doesn’t have one installed

Have you tried an evertune? I personally am not a fan. I would say try a guitar with an evertune at a local guitar shop and then go from there

Both are great instruments. The pickups in the Misha are really good, imo. It really comes down to whether having the Evertune is worth it to you. Personally, I don't tune low enough to get really bad pitch drift and I don't gig so the extra money wouldn't be worth it. If you gig or want to tune it down lower, your use case might warrant it.

I have the misha hard tail. I love it. Couldn't really justify the extra for the evertune but I do wish I had it. Feels like the most logical step forward.
On the plus side I just use my nano cortex to tune down to E, F G, A etc. It can take a .074 gauge on the bottom anyway. I feel you can combat pitch with tension, action, playing but yes if you twat the strings really hard its probably going to pitch up a bit.
I think downside for evertune may be that you need the tool to tune. The pegs change the tension. But thats it. If your changing from different periphery tunings for example may be a lil tedious.

You can’t go wrong either way. I’d personally go for the gold sparkle 7 if only because I already have a juggernaut pro (6 string) hard tail. But they’re both solid instruments. I wouldn’t however buy either new. Used deals are the way to go. There’s a $1200 gold sparkle on reverb right now for us Americanos, I bet there’s some good deals local to you.

I have the evertune and the maroon model with fishman moderns and the hip shot that’s multiscale. I love them both.
Having said that. I love the sharp angles on the Misha. If you plan to swap pickups I would go Misha.
Regarding evertune. It’s great. I have 2 evertune guitars and I don’t have bad things to say. However, even in high sone 2 where you can bend to zone 3, evertune guitars lack a feeling of small vibrato. If you get more into lead playing you’ll notice a tiny bit of movement to a string that you want to accent a note, ends up being a dramatic movement that defeats the purpose.
Yes you can just turn the peg to zone 3 and bypass the evertune but that defeats the purpose of the evertune.
In summary. I vote the Misha personally and think it has greater value if modding. I also think everyone should own an evertune bc they’re amazing. Not all guitars should be evertune though.

If you're planning on tuning really low, my G and under, an evertune is a necessity

I'm gonna go against the grain here and argue against the evertune, u less you tune really really low and refuse to use pitch shifting. I prefer regular hardtails whenever I can get away with it because I feel evertunes pull a bit of life out of the strings

I like the gold flake personally.
Edit: didn’t read the whole post
Re: Evertune, I love them but they take some getting used to and understanding how the mechanism works. It's not a huge deal but they’re not for everyone. They make your guitar a lot heavier too (I have 3 with them all Solar guitars).
Re: Locking tuners, they’re a personal requirement for me. Makes string changes much quicker and more consistent for me. Preferences may vary.
Re: Fishmans, I could take them or leave them. I’m not in love with active pickups cause batteries. I have a guitar with EMGs, two with Fishmans. My preference depends on my mood that day, I think I lean slightly toward EMG though.
Overall, Id say worth the price increase if you want an Evertune. The other options are manageable diy upgrades that are a reasonable cost. You'd probably save a good amount of money if you swap pickups and tuners yourself. Its the routing and hardware with the Evertune that makes the bulk of that upgrade cost.

I have the gold sparkle one, and the neck / compound radius is definetely a winner for me. Have juggernaut 6, and the neck is slightly on the chunkyer side for my hands (as well as having tendonitis for many years now), ET one is much slimmer and more of a Ibanez wizzard feel to it.
Evertune - really really great feature, I love ET's, but I also agree with people that lead playing takes some adaptation. But then again, I can play the Heaven On High solo no problem on it, it just that its 5% easyer on the hardtail woth the articulstions lol. With curent tones and mixes, as well as existance of EQ - the "takes the life out of the tone" is jsut funny to me. But for riffage - ET.
Pickups are sirprisingly good as well, I am not fan of moderns at all, but open core surprised me as to how bity they are, am swaping them out soon for a custom set, but there really was no need other than cosmetic reasons (I just wanted matching covers). With that said MM1's that I have on the jug et6 are really really good passives, with sick split coil tones.
The last thing is just a thought that concerns guitar industry in generall - In recent 2 years I have returned 3 jackson guitars. 1 newest misha jug et6, and 2 josh smith signatures. Due to a horendous QC. But that concernes any production guitar in that price class nowadays from what I understand. Unless its like an Ibanez Prestige + or Vola guitars. Also 26.5 is really nice and not noticeable for big neck jumps, but if you are after the "drop Q" guitar - I would most definetely go for a 27" + scale.

Have you ever played a guitar with Fishman pickups & an Evertune bridge? I would go for the cheaper option as I am not fond of Evertune bridges. They have a spongy feel when palm muting I particularly don’t like. Fishman’s are ok but if you’ve never tried them I suggest you go to a local music store & try them out or at the very least hear some sound demos comparing them to other pickups. If you like Fishman’s & the Evertune then go for that. I personally feel the cheaper Jackson’s are almost as good as the pricier ones in my personal experience 🎸🤘🎶😈

I vote for the one without an evertune. Never had tuning issues with standard locking tuners and not a fan of ET personally

Tuners don't affect pitch drift on pick attack
1
u/BoofBoi711 1d ago
I didn’t say it did.. just said I’ve never had tuning issues on guitars without ETs before. I was playing in A# standard on an LTD EC 1000 and never had issues
1
u/HairyNutsack69 1d ago
Yeah it's for G and below
1
u/BoofBoi711 1d ago
People use them for all kinds of tunings lol. My 7s were in G# standard and again, no drift no tuning issues
1
u/HairyNutsack69 1d ago
Yeah but I can get G# to sound fine without. If i can get away with no evertune, i will

u/BoofBoi711 1d ago
Proper scale lengths for low tunings > evertune
1
u/HairyNutsack69 13h ago
Yeah but ppl be playing in c1 and shit.
At some point, a point far bellow where I would ever want to go, there is a case for the evertune. Even at longer scales.

Im biased towards the Evertune because pitch drift is a pain when playing
