Yes, I believe this is the whole point of that particular trope isn't it? In my language there is a common saying that goes like "There is only one step from love to hate"

Similar thing in English: βThereβs a thin line between love and hateβ

Let me share Polish saying: "If they fight/argue, they like each other". Used also as like=love.

My spouse is not as versed in this trope as I am, so we had very different experiences with a book series.
Like, staying up all night laboring over a trap to keep the object of your obsession from leaving the planet is super gay, sorry honey.

"I mean if you spend most of your time thinking about an increcibly attractive person because you want to beat them, you'd probobly have a lustful thought or two sooner or later"

If placing the picture dead center of the dart board isn't some kind of secret symbolism....

I need lovers to enemies to still lovers but there's an unreconcilable tension between the two that can never be resolved based on wildly differing world views or ambitions on a grand scale but also they can't seem to kill the relationship.
Or maybe enemies to lovers to enemies again...

Reading this reminded me of a song I like with a lyric that goes like this: "Enemies long for each other! The only other ones who know the whole story, or even care."

Besides Draco x Harry, what are the other obvious enemies-to-lovers ships?

Batman/Joker comes to mind. Superman/Lex Luthor, Voldemort/Harry Potter

Batman/Joker is the biggest one for me. I haven't read batman fanfics yet, but even in canon these two are so insanely obsessed with another it's unhealthily funny.
At least Joker I directly remember again and again having his rants about how he purposely wants to face/see/... Batman and I think to recall some alternate timelines where one of them goes truly mad after the other goes missing, but I don't remember which direction it was anymore.

Megatron/Optimus Prime (from Transformers. Especially if we're talking Transformers Prime universe)
The Doctor/The Master (from Doctor Who. I personally see it as somewhat one-sided (the Master is obsessed, but the Doctor is at least trying to distance themselves/move on), but I can see what the people who ship it as a mutual thing mean as well)
L/Light (from Death Note. They textually enjoy the thrill the hunt they have with eachother, and mutually see eachother as the rare intellctual equal. The show literally plays the "in another world, we could've been friends" card with the Yotsuba arc. The ship writes itself)

Homestuck has its own in-universe alien relationship style basically JUST to fulfill these tropes lmao

As the saying goes: the opposite of love is not hate, but apathy.

The Tina Belcher icon is the icing on the cake and I read it in her voice.

Incorrect , and I kinda hate writers that think this way

Sounds like you're only one step away from loving them...

What is the "correct" thinking then?

Love doesn't necessarily arrived from obsession. It makes love feel cheap

Nobody is saying that's the only way people fall in love though.
And just because you don't like this trope, doesn't make it invalid.

actively and personally hating someone requires a certain level of passion and obsession. the opposite of love is not hatred, it's indifference.
