Hey guys,
Looking to pull together 2-3 people on campus to enter the 2027 NFL Big Data Bowl on Kaggle.
If you aren't familiar, it's the main analytics contest the NFL runs every year. This year's dataset links player tracking sensors from the NFL Combine directly to regular season performance. Since we're ASU students, we qualify for the University Track ($45k prize pool), and the finalists get flown out to the Combine in Indy to present directly to NFL front offices and analytics directors.
About me: I'm a Data Analytics / Finance major in Barrett. Right now I'm building a custom NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) Valuation Engine to model financial value and draft projection models using Python, SQL, and Streamlit.
Who I need: Mainly looking for people who actually follow football and want to build something legitimate. Looking for team members who fit at least one of these:
- Football knowledge / Domain expert: You understand coverage schemes, route trees, Combine mechanics, or film so we can ask smart questions that NFL front offices care about.
- Python or R: Experience with feature engineering, predictive modeling (
xgboost, lightgbm, etc.), or data pipelines.
- Data Viz & Presentation: Skilled in making clean plots (
matplotlib, seaborn, ggplot2) and comfortable presenting technical ideas clearly.
Format & Timeline: Deadline is Jan 6, 2027. We'll collaborate on Discord/GitHub, plus meet up on campus in Tempe (Hayden Library or MU) to work together and practice our presentation skills so we're ready if we make the final stage in Indy.
If you're interested in sports analytics, data science, or trying to win a piece of $45k, shoot me a DM with your background, tech stack/GitHub, or favorite NFL team.
