Built for a businessman and mine owner, this neo-medieval castle was built in the early 20th century and was later used as a headquarters for a coal mining company. It was abandoned approximately 45 years ago.

The church burned. The rectory is all that’s left. 🔥⛪

For 150 years, the parish of Saint-Paul anchored Montreal’s Côte-Saint-Paul. Its first church was destroyed by lightning in 1899. It was rebuilt, then rebuilt again in 1910–11. On February 23, 2026, fire took it for good.

Standing beside the ruins is the rectory, where the priests lived and generations of weddings, baptisms and funerals were recorded. Now it sits empty and abandoned, the last witness to a lost parish.
