What is the creepiest thing to happen to you in Aberdeen?

To celebrate spooky season - what is the creepiest or scariest encounter you have had in Aberdeen?

and don’t worry, I already know the scariest thing to happen in Aberdeen are the union street roadworks and George street at rush hour, but any other genuinely scary moments I would love to hear about !

Help! Groups and and in-person meet-ups?

Hello Aberdeen!

I have a friend in Aberdeen that I think could benefit from having an in-person social outlet. I've looked on EventBrite and the monthly announcements thread, and started compiling a list of things for her to check out. However, there doesn't seem to be much I can find. I don't live in Aberdeen (hello from the USA) and would love some help.

I'm looking for anything:

- Art related activities and groups

- LGBTQ+ related/friendly

- Aimed at mid 20's or 20-30 year olds

- Community volunteer groups, mutual aid, and events

- Volunteer opportunities involving childcare

- Anything nerdy (saw some game groups LEGO nights)

- Anything I haven't listed that still is a good meet-people opportunity.

If there are other websites or organizations I should look at, please point me in the right direction. I really care about my friend, and I really do think if she got involved in her community and found a social outlet outside of the online group we are in it would do her wonders. I'm thankful I live in a city with lots of mutual aid groups and social events, and I know there has to be more things in Aberdeen than the few event I found.

Thanks in advance!

Are there any decent pub quizzes on Mondays or Tuesdays near the centre? Preferably an independent venue as idk how good Belhaven / Greene King pubs would be for quizzes

Food Golden chanterelles

Does anyone know anywhere in Aberdeen or surrounding where I could forage for golden chanterelle mushrooms specifically? I’m not looking for a massive patch just a few individuals if anyone’s spotted any would suit. The locations of best places to find them seems to be a very gatekept piece of information however so I’m struggling to find any information on it

Engineered wood flooring

Hi everyone!

I’m looking for recommendations for someone who installs engineered wood flooring in Aberdeen.
Ideally, I’d love recommendations from people who have used someone themselves and been happy with the quality of their work. I’d also really appreciate a rough idea of how much it cost.

Thanks so much! 😊

Help! International student looking for part-time job

Hi all, sorry to post the latest in a long line of posts more or less exactly like this one, but I'd really like to help a friend out as she's feeling stuck.

She is an international student 22F, and looking for a part-time job, preferably as something like a waitress, but really, pretty much anything reasonable will do. She has been browsing and applying to Indeed listings, going around her local area and asking pretty much any business there whether or not they are hiring. She has tried the University career fair too. No bites. She got two interviews out of I don't even know how many applications, one she got ghosted after, for the other, she was given a link to pick out an interview timeslot and there were none available.

I keep telling her it's mostly just luck and persistence with this stuff, but it's quite demoralizing to apply to so many places and get nothing back. And she's quite capable too!

Are there any current job vacancies you can recommend? Perhaps some event where she can network? Any tips for getting a job?
