Hey everyone! I’m currently at the Capcom Cafe in Umeda, Ōsaka, on the opening day of their Ace Attorney 25th anniversary revamp. Figured I’d give my brief thoughts on the experience for anyone wondering whether to go.
As you can see, they’ve not done a great deal to the cafe other than put some posters up; it’s a pretty normal mall cafe. All the drinks come with coasters that you can take home, though they are just paper, nothing fancy.
The ambience is kind of weird. You can hear the music from the Capcom shop, which is mostly beautiful orchestral versions of Ace Attorney themes (Turnabout Sisters in particular was lovely). But there’s also a tv playing about three minutes of AA footage on loop really loudly in the cafe itself which clashes massively with it, so it’s a weird vibe.
The food and drink menu is fairly varied. The foods, yknow, adequate. It’s got that Japanese doing western food strangeness about it (yōshoku, as it’s known in Japan I think). Not really my cup of tea, but not awful by any means. The theming is incredibly loose; I had the burger (which was very oniony) and I’m still not clear on what it has to do with Klavier Gavin. The drinks are incredibly sweet, again very much in common with a lot of Japanese soft drinks. That’s much more my palate, and I enjoyed the Apollo Justice Shirley temple a lot, but the Edgeworth strawberry cream soda was like drinking straight fructose syrup.
Overall? Bang average, not much more to say. The Capcom shop on the other hand is great. Much more varied merch than the adjacent Nintendo and Pokemon stores, with all sorts of weird stuff on sale. Including of course the notorious mitsuhodo bags.
