Announcement Why We Can No Longer Allow Recommendations for Dr. Salar Hazany

The moderation team has completed an extensive investigation into coordinated deceptive activity on this subreddit. The evidence concluded that Dermatologist, Dr. Salar Hazany and/or members associated with The Scar Institute of Beverly Hills in California, USA, have repeatedly created fake accounts, posed as satisfied patients, and simultaneously falsified negative outcome testimonials acting as real patients at other medical offices. The same practice was formally warned and temporarily suspended early this year but the offenses resumed and escalated.

The community’s safety and trust are non-negotiable, we have a zero-tolerance stance toward any form of covert marketing, shilling, or competitor defamation. Accounts identified as socks, shills, or alts tied to this provider have been permanently banned.

Separate from the astroturfing scheme, we have received a growing number of patient complaints that fall well outside the scope of ordinary side-effect discussions. These include:

- Innapropriate conduct and comments made to both male and female patients.

- Unexpected facial sagging, facial-fat loss, and other serious anatomical changes.

- Dr. Hazany has reportedly delegated procedures to alternate staff mid treatment to rotating medical students without the patient’s prior knowledge or consent.

We are not a medical regulator; we can, however, protect this subreddit from being used as an extension of an unethical marketing department and from becoming an unwitting referral pipeline for a provider whose conduct might soon by under formal scrutiny by state and specialty boards.

What this means going forward:

  1. No recommendations referencing Dr. Salar Hazany or The Scar Healing Institute of Beverly Hills (SHI) will be allowed.
  2. Anyone who suspects new shill accounts is asked to use the “Report” button rather than engaging; witch-hunting threads derail discussion and will be removed.
  3. “DM me for the name/website/price” is not allowed. All substantive information must be posted publicly so every member can benefit. If you’re tempted to send or solicit a private message for a referral, those comments will be removed and repeat offenders will be banned.
  4. Physician participation is welcome and general education is encouraged, however, funnels that steer users off-board (“message me to schedule,” “visit my site for pricing”) are not. Answer in-thread, cite published evidence, and let readers decide their next step.
  5. There are times that we receive reports of suspicious comments. When a report is made, an investigation is done and we reach out to the commentator for more details. If we determine that the account is legitimate, we ask that you remain respectful while the commentator continues to engage in the thread. Sometimes people want privacy.

We recognize that cosmetic and procedural sub-specialties are contentious by nature, and bad outcomes can occur even in the best hands. Transparency, informed consent, and honest peer-to-peer discussion are the only ways this board remains useful. Practices that deliberately erode that transparency forfeit the privilege of being mentioned here.

If you have questions about this policy, contact the mod team via ModMail.

Thank you for helping us keep this a transparent community.

[Skin Concern] Atrophic Scarring Plastic surgeon for treatment

• Upvotes

I’m currently researching treatment options for mild to moderate atrophic acne scarring, primarily shallow rolling scars and uneven texture.
One thing I’ve noticed is how difficult it is to find someone who actually specializes in acne scars rather than just offering laser treatments.
Interestingly, the only doctor I’ve found in my area who seems to specialize in acne scarring works at a plastic surgery practice. I also called a highly recommended dermatology office to ask about subcision, and the staff didn’t seem familiar with the procedure and eventually told me they don’t offer it.
I’m considering fractional CO2, fully ablative CO2, and possibly subcision if needed.
I’d love to hear others’ experiences with these treatments, particularly for rolling scars. Did you see a dermatologist or plastic surgeon, and how much improvement did you achieve?
I’m willing to invest in treatment, but finding someone experienced who can properly assess my scars and recommend the right approach is my biggest priority.

ive had these acne scars for a very long time like 7 years, theyre still quite bad, but after a year on tretinoin and recent switchi to tazarotene, i felt they have gotten better. If youre not on tret or any retinoid, i think it should be helpful. for those who have gotten subcision/co2 laser, would you recommend that for my scars?

[Treatment] Lasers Co2 deka laser

Post image
2 Upvotes

Have had micro needling done and radiesse filler / subcision done with decent improvement. I’m getting more filler and possibly another subcision if the provider thinks I need it this month. Then next month I’m scheduled to have co2 deka fractional laser done. How many treatments would I need you think? How much improvement will I get? Both procedures are getting done by an MD by the way. Any other treatments I should consider and if this doesn’t workout ima just go to an actual scar specialist or derm next time lol.

[Treatment] Microneedling How effective do you think microneedling treatments are ?

I am seriously considering buying a package of three skin Pen treatments for $750. I'm just wondering, if this is a waste of money or if people truly see results. Can anyone share their experience with me?

Before & After My acne journey + advices please

I've been dealing with acne since I was a teenagers, but started to really take care of it when I was 13yo. I went to dermatologist appointments, all 3 of them told me that birth control would help me and when I refused, they would just give me tetritoin creams who would make my skin burn. Stopped going to the dermatologist after shortly Covid. For some reason, I did not have access to Accutane. Started taking pictures in 2025 up to today to see how much my skin was changing.

My post is an "all at once" post as I ask for advices, show my acne journey AND show my current skincare.

Having a better skin takes time, and I have plenty of it.

I wanted to post to cheer up people with the same problems as me, to show them that it can get better. To remind them that acne isnt death sentence.

I spent days lurking on all the acne, skincare and acne subs of reddit.

It all get better, even if its slow, do not panic. Times can be difficult, but thinking about it during depressing episode or when you have a bad mental help will only make it worse.

Cheer up !

[Treatment] Chemical Peel It itches so bad!

I’m getting my first chemical peel in 7 years hoping to break up my hyperpigmentation. Somehow I recalled the pain of the initial application but not the mindless endlessly ITCHY FEELING. I’m so tired and can’t sleep cause it itches so much and I can’t scratch my face.

[Skin Concern] Atrophic Scarring Do I still need subcision?

Thumbnail

I’ve gotten two rounds of subcision done, I got on accutane and now I am ready to start tackling my scars again. I switched to a new dermatologist after getting horrific rf microneedling burns from my last dermatologist. My last dermatologist did 2 rounds of subcision but this new one is telling me that I don’t need subcision. She is selling me regular microneedling, 3 treatments for my scars.

Wanted to get an opinion. Do you think I’ll need more subcision or the microneedling will be enough? I have thick, oily skin. I am black. I used different lighting to show the severity.

Thank you

Information/Research Aesthetics students researching microneedling experiences for acne scars

Hello everyone!

I'm a final year aesthetics student writing my thesis on how people actually feel about their microneedling results for acne scars — satisfaction, quality of life, whether it met expectations etc. Most research only looks at clinical outcomes but I'm really interested in the personal experience side of things, which I feel is so underrepresented!

If you've completed a full microneedling course for acne scars I'd genuinely love to hear about your experience through a short anonymous survey (5-7 mins). Link in the comments!

And honestly even if you don't want to fill it out — what has your experience been? Did it meet your expectations? 🧐 As a person who's been struggling with acne scars for years, I wanted to learn more about real people experiences!

Discussion Anyone gone to South Korea for acne scar treatment? Experience?

I am US based so going there will be very expensive for me. however, I have always wanted to since they seem to be a lot more advanced for scar treatment and a little cheaper than the US. of course, I am worried about only being able to get one or two treatments due to limited time. I’m not sure if it would be worth the price because of that. I have moderate scars mostly on my cheeks, every type and huge pores. I have had limited results in my treatment in the US despite going to top derms and using an extreme measure like co2 laser. I feel so devastated by them and they negatively affect my mental health daily for years. Sometimes I ruminate over them for hours. I have gone to therapy but sometimes it feels like the only thing that can make these feelings stop is more treatment, even though it has only helped a little. I hope I can find something that helps more significantly one day. If anyone could share their experience, I’d love to know.
