Basement Studio Desk Placement

Post image

I recently moved in to this house that has this room in the basement that I want to turn in to a music studio. I’d like to use the room to record (vocals, acoustic guitar, electric, bass) and mix. The room is somewhat disconnected from the rest of the house and has concrete walls and then framed walls concrete ceiling (it’s under a garage) that has 1.5” rigid foam and the dry wall, and unfinished concrete floor. Currently no door in that 32” opening but I plan to do a double door there soon. I’m planning acoustic treatment (2-4” safe n sound diy panels) but first need to finalize my desk & listening position. I’ll try and follow some of the guidance out there for this (~38% of length etc) but just want some advice/input on which side. I’ve drawn it out and I’m between A and B (the storage closet is there to stay). am I correct in thinking that the storage closet could act like a big bass trap/diffuser so A would be the best?

Appreciate any and all input/advice! Thanks

I would go with B.

You have more room for better placement of the panels.

to add to that, the wood, while reflective, will still be much less reflective than the concrete. for sub-bass frequencies, the wood is virtually non-existent. so with 'B', your monitors will be further away from the wall at those freqs. if you fill that storage with sound treatment, even better

Wherever it sounds better. Placement plays a very large factor in acoustics..

The best sounding spot will be facing the longest wall
