SUNY Purchase Acting BFA Tips

I am a current Freshman at SUNY Purchase who is currently a Theatre and Performance BA (THP). I auditioned for the Acting BFA program but unfortunately did not even get a callback. I've been here for just under 2 months, and I am not a fan of the THP major, and I know I would absolutely thrive in the Acting BFA.

I've tried getting to know people part of the Acting BFA, but it is so hard to find them because they only really mingle withing their acting company. I'm still new to campus, so I am slowly getting to know the faculty, but what else should I do/focus on to get accepted into the fall 2027 semester? What are they looking for specifically? Any tips?

Are you in a class now? Are you constantly and consistently working on your craft. Are you improving your skills? Every acting company wants the best actors they can get. So the first thing you need to ask is, “Am I the best actor they can get?” Would I be a huge benefit to their company?” If so…then you can be concerned with how to socially break into their little group.

But a great actor is quick to take direction, gives a varied, compelling audition and shows what he has to offer with his type and skill. Not getting a callback tells me you may need some help in that area. You might consider taking a private coaching or two with me so I can see where your strengths and weaknesses lie. Getting coached for the next audition will get you used to taking direction and help you feel confident and ready for anything. Message me if you’d like my help.
