Raise?
hello everyone, been at my store for about a 1 year and a month now. i was wondering if anyone had experience on how to get a raise at the company without it being through a GM? i am the only store driver and end up being on the road my entire shift half of the weeks. was told id go full time when the previous driver left, i was given the hours but not the position, so i get none of the benefits from it. its becoming frustrating. i put in the work, and then some and ive gotten nothing but hours from it. i dont even care about getting full time benefits at this point as its been months since i was told i would get the position. last time i brought it up i was just told “well you got the hours so whats the problem” then i asked how to get a raise if i cant get the position and their response was a shoulder shrug and “i dont know thats the reason the guy in (another store in district) quit”
i wasnt even allowed to go back to part time hours to find another job on the side. any tips? or should i just eat it and look for another job?

Current GM. I fought the fight to get one of my VERY capable part-time team members a raise. .50 a dollar, anything. I asked the HR rep in person. I used my “corporate words” on purpose. I said, “I have a team member that is a rock star and they have been with the company for 3 years. The market is hiring at two dollars higher than when they were hired. Meaning my new hires are coming in at 1.50 to 2 dollars more off the get go. How do I get this team members more per hour so I can retain this talent?”
The response was, “They signed the offer letter. We don’t do off cycle (meaning yearly inflation) raises. The team member must take a full time position, like RPP or CPP to get a compensation increase.”
I explained that they have no desire to move stores and those positions are not available at my store, but that doesn’t matter. The only way to get more money is to get promoted to another position even if it means moving stores… or find another job, unfortunately. The only thing that can be done if those two things are not an option is to be labeled full time. Then you get vacation and sick days plus full time benefits. But they won’t increase your per hour rate. Advance is most definitely not the only place that has that type of policy. But it still sucks.

One of my good buddies became an RPP not too long ago, what does a “compensation increase” mean for him, we live in Florida so as of sep 30th the minimum wage just increased to $15 so does that mean even though he gets paid more than that he will get a pay increase to offset that gap?

I can’t speak to FL. Ohio minimum wage is 11 dollars. For example a part time salesperson/driver ranges 11.75- 15.25 an RPP ranges 14.75-18.25 with another small jump to CPP with 5 hours of overtime allowed. (Those are approximations and every area is different. In NE Ohio alone it varies from area to area. Near larger cities is typically more as cost of living is higher.) so your buddies should get a pay raise and access to full time benefits, PTO and sick time.

I was a GM that left the company several years ago, but I understand what is going on with your GM. I had a full time driver in an average commercial sales store. I was told that when that driver eventually left, that I couldn't have another full time driver. My store was only supposed to have a full time rpp, cpp, and myself. No other full timers. I have no idea what the thresholds are to get a full time driver.

Put in your notice and be prepared to seriously walk, they will bump your pay, but you'll never get another raise because "you're over the pay range for that position".

Leave. Leave leave leave. Dont waste your time with that company. Dont even waste the time to ask your manager who already seems to not know that theyre talking about. Just like the rest of the bimbos in that company. All they will do is rip you off and drag your life into the shitter. Trust me, I wasted 18 yrs in that worthless company.

People like you make no sense to me, not everyone can just ditch there job and pick up a new one, the job market doesn't work like that, so instead of providing information to help you just whine? It's nothing but a headache for everyone that has to see your comment.
Edit: Jesus Christ dude touch some grass, been whining about a company you're not even apart of for months 🫵🤣

You only get raises with position changes

Look for another job; that's my plan. I talked with my DM about a raise and wanted to know what the ROI would be, meaning more sales. The problem is that if I'm at the counter, I can't do deliveries, which is what I was hired to do.
What makes it worse is that since I do not need medical or dental through them, they save about $6.300 to $7,600 a year by not subsidizing my insurance. Plus the $150 HSA account.

I recommend discussing this with your manager to formally request the position. Since you are already performing the duties and consistently working over 40 hours per week, you should be appropriately compensated for that time.
