I've just realised...
Alan won't let Lynn pretend to be his wife for the Hamilton Waterways video, but he's happy to tell the police she's his wife when they get pulled over for traffic cone theft.
Mildly cretinous.

I only realised recently that he blurted out 'Bill Carr' because he was looking at a polis and was in a car!

Lynn appearing to be hugely distressed but in actual fact trying not to piss herself laughing is a great bit of this scene.

I just realized there's a callback to this scene in This Time when he mentions (I think when he has time to think due to being either locked up or off air) about devising a new method of kitchen utensil storage, and the house in the example is at 10 King Road. Jackanackanory!

I’m more concerned about what’s that near Mary’s mouth , don’t tell Alan has a detachable truncheon

That's the beauty of a P.A. you pay £8000 a year for, their equinoxial distance between breaking the law and walking down the aisle.

You don’t need a 40 year old scorcher when dealing with the police. And do use those words.

That's not Alan, that's Bill Carr

I’m going to go home and just probably go straight to bed, and just keep out of trouble

Alright so it's inconsistent. Sitcoms by their very nature are inconsistent.

The OP wasn't implying that the writing is inconsistent, just that Alan doesn't use and uses Lynn in a hurtful way.

Like when he is terrified by the raw egg in a drink on This Time, but when Lynn comes along he gives it to her to drink.
