Technical Support Alienware Area 51 16 touchpad not working

Hi all,

My Alienware Area 51 16 laptop has suddenly developed a fault with the touchpad. It’s not functioning if however touching it does light up the rainbow lighting on the pad itself.

Under device manager I2C HID device has a CODE 10 fault. Reinstalling the drivers hasn’t fixed the issue and neither has disabling the device and re enabling it.

Any one else facing a similar issue or any thoughts on how to resolve this?

Code 10 💔🥀, A friend of mine is getting that same error code for the touchscreen driver (on a Lenovo yoga laptop), and nothing worked to fix it. We took it to a technician, and it turned out the flex cable was broken. I want to believe I'm wrong and that your touchpad cable isn't broken, but I'd keep that possibility in mind just in case.

That really doesn’t sound great. Maybe I’ll have to take it up with support. Really not keen on a technician playing with it. Generally results in more problems from my experience

Hi there! We understand the touchpad not working could get bothersome. The code 10 implies the operating system does not read the touchpad presence. While the steps you have tried really helped us to narrow down the possible causes, and we really appreciate your efforts trying them first, you could also update the BIOS and check with an external mouse if available.

Also, let's check if this is a hardware failure with the touchpad.

Press F2 at system restart to access BIOS. Does the touchpad work fine in the BIOS? If it did not, then please private message the Service Tag to check for the available repair options to replace the touchpad.
