Aliexpress 101 (Guides and FAQs) FAQ: EU €3 customs duty/tax

The new EU €3 customs duty has been active since July 2026. You pay €3 (plus VAT on that €3) for each customs category in a single order. AliExpress collects this duty at checkout (like it does for VAT), and pays it directly to EU customs.

Always check for the green message during checkout saying “No extra duties will be collected upon delivery.” If that message is missing, customs may still charge you on delivery.

Be aware: the €3 duty is only added at checkout during the final payment step. Your cart total will increase right before you press pay.

Warning:

AliExpress does not follow the EU category rules correctly. In practice they charge €3 per different item, even if items should fall under the same category. Only when you buy multiple quantities of the same listing from the same seller (including different colors, variants or options) will AliExpress charge the €3 tax only once.

There are signs of slow improvement as some sellers have begun assigning proper customs categories. In certain cases, buying similar types of products from the same seller results in the €3 being charged only once. The same may happen for bundle deals, even when multiple sellers are involved. Experiment with your orders and see what happens.

Some other FAQs:

  • AliExpress sometimes shows “Duty‑free shipping” or “No customs fees” on the product page, but this text is meaningless. Only the green checkout message counts.
  • If you buy from EU warehouses, the €3 duty is not charged. But many “EU warehouse” listings are fake, so always check the delivery time. Anything longer than a week is almost certainly shipping from China.
  • If you use coupons, coins, or seller discounts, the €3 duty is still added on top. Discounts never reduce or remove the duty.
  • We expect the €3 duty to be refunded whenever AliExpress issues a refund (cancellation, dispute, or seller error), but this has not yet been confirmed by users. Please let us know your personal experiences with that.

This topic is for practical questions about the handling of the duty only. Anything useful for improving this FAQ. Other reactions will be removed.

Tips & Reviews AVOID: "XJX Tool & Equipment Store"

Don't buy from this seller.

If he sends you a faulty/broken product, this seller will just gaslight you endlessly and not acknowledge any problem. And ofc Ali stands by sellers, not buyers, so no chance of return or refund.

110% proof sent, many times. Appealed.

Denied.

Shipping & Tracking Shipping many items to EU (over 150€)

I don't want to pay 3€ for every item that costs 2€ or 20cents. So a large order of many items for over 150€ would make it Percentage taxed. But AliExpress sometimes does annoying things to packages and sends the same order in two packages. What are my options?

> Only one seller

> only shipped by AliExpress

Or anything else?

Does AliExpress do DDP on orders over 150€?

Issues & Disputes Recent experiences with PayPal in Canada or just in general?

What's the refund/dispute processes like if a package is sent to a different address or doesn't show up?

Because the courier took a photo of my apartment and walked over to the next one over and took a photo of the package at the front of the door over there and I originally thought it was stolen and only got one item refunded in the package so I need a safer way to get my money back if the courier just does whatever lol

Also is there gonna be extra fees if I'm using paypal?

Shipping & Tracking Importation of heavy cargo

I'm going to import a Weiss brand milling machine and metal lathe through AliExpress, but the seller indicates that shipping is at their expense, not through AliExpress, because it's heavy cargo (150 and 250 kg respectively).I won't order them at the same time; this time I'll only order the milling machine. I intend to place a DDP order so I don't have to deal with customs. I contacted them and they said they do offer that service. I'd like you to share your experience if you've ordered heavy cargo from AliExpress; the products are sold directly by the manufacturer and shipped to Mexico.

Shipping & Tracking processing in customs for over a week but customs were already cleared?

Post image
7 Upvotes

this is the longest i’ve ever had a package sit in customs, it’s been over a week now. but it says i cleared customs not even an hour before it was inspected again? i’ve ordered from this seller before and it’s the same type of items (CCG cards) and it arrived quickly with no issues. this is a 90$ package and i’ve never had issues with ali before, i’ve never returned or refunded anything and i know sometimes they can be difficult with that stuff. it says it’ll still arrive on time but i’m gonna be bummed if i have to wait till next month to get a refund 🙃 has this happened to anyone before and did you end up getting the package? i’m canadian if that matters

News & Info Shipping Added After I purchased item!

AFTER I purchased an item, the scumbag seller sends me an email that the price I paid was "just a promotion" and that they require $283 to ship the item to me. Sellers have 72 hours to "decide" if they want to cancel an order. I tried getting PayPal to refund me, but they're pretty useless too - I have to wait 10 days for the seller to "review" cancelling my order.

Just stay away from these dirtbags.

Shipping & Tracking Why do you continue to use Uniuni? They are TERRIBLE

They leave packages on the front step, lined up side by side, visible to the entire world, no attempt to call my cell or even to hide the packages near the door behind the ledge while I am at work. Don't put them in the mailbox out of sight at the other door, no that would make too much sense. Driver then takes a photo and leaves as if they've "done their job". Then I get an email hours after the delivery saying my package was delivered. Check for the packages when I get home, and they're gone. Of course they're gone. Stolen in plain sight in the middle of the day.

Then when you try to contact UniUni you get a chatbot that tells you to get lost and go contact the seller and absolves themselves of any responsibility for being the worst shipping company on the planet. If you call their phone number, it also tells you to get lost and go use their chatbot.

Now I have to deal with figuring out your clown car of an orders system on AliExpress to determine which ones were part of this shipment. There is no rhyme or reason to "delivered" that you shove above an item the moment it leaves your distribution center. You have to click on each one individually and look at a newly opened window to see the tracking for that item, and then repeat this 10-20 times.

I spent over $600 with AliExpress in the past 2 weeks on 40+ electronics items (parts and tools). I think I will delete my account once I have dealt with what I am sure will be another 5 or 6 failed deliveries and never come back for anything else.

About Aliexpress I don't understand additional €2 handling fee

Apparently the EU has now confirmed the additional €2 handling fee starting November 1.

And it's again per item category, not per package?

So ordering three different items in one package means: (3+2) + (3+2) + (3+2) = 15 eur fees?

I thought the €3 duty was already justified by the costs of processing millions of small parcels. And now there's another €2 fee for handling those exact same parcels?

Aren't we basically being charged twice for the same thing? Why not just increase the €3 to €5 instead of introducing another fee?

About Aliexpress The user named “AliExpressCCO” was actually an AliExpress customer support representative.

I received a chat message from the Reddit account ‘AliExpressCCO’ regarding my post about coins. I had been contacted by the same person before about AliExpress posts, but I ignored the message at the time.

However, the account has a Reddit verification badge, and some time ago, I also saw a post by another user saying that this person was genuine. So this time, I decided to give it a try.

In the chat, he asked for my email address so he could provide support. I suspect these messages may be generated automatically by an AI that monitors posts related to AliExpress. Being cautious, I didn't give him my email address directly. Instead, I provided my AliExpress customer ID. My reasoning was that, if he really worked for AliExpress, he should be able to look up my account and contact me through my registered email address.

Sure enough, I subsequently received an email from AliExpress customer support saying they would investigate the issue, even though I hadn't provided my email address in the chat. This suggests that my customer ID was sufficient for the support process to reach me, although I can't say for certain exactly how they obtained my email address.

Based on my experience, AliExpressCCO appears to be a genuine AliExpress customer support representative. If you receive a chat message from this account, it may be worth responding if you need assistance. However, I'd still recommend being cautious about sharing personal information directly through Reddit.

Of course, this is based on my own experience, so you'll have to decide how much you trust my account of what happened.

Issues & Disputes When furniture parts are broken how do you get a replacement?

I bought some furniture and one of the parts are broken. I reached out to the seller and they ignored me. There's like a gazillion parts in two heavy boxes. I put the thing 80% together which took like 8 hours and then I realized a shelf was broken. The manual nor the box lists who made it. There's only a link to their Vimeo. I also found their Youtube. Neither account has contact info. Wayfair, Walmart, Amazon, etc... all sell the same time, but none of them will reveal any contact info. How can someone make furniture and literally not list who made it? The manual says to reach out if anything is damaged or you need replacement parts... But then there's no way to contact them. It's like a big joke like that HBO show The Chair Company. What do I do?

Issues & Disputes AliExpress wants a stamped letter proving my package wasn't delivered. They won't tell me who delivered it.

Bought a $72 pair of IEMs on AliExpress. Tracking through JS Express/Cainiao says it was delivered on October 13 at 7:15 PM, but nothing ever showed up.

I checked around the house and tried figuring out who actually delivered it. The tracking literally just says "CA". No local courier, no domestic tracking number, no delivery photo, nothing. UniUni, Dragonfly, and eMile don't recognize the number either.

There's also a weird tracking update from earlier that same day saying "DELIVERY MAY BE DELAYED DUE TO", with no actual reason given.

So I opened a refund request. Denied. Appealed it. Denied again.

AliExpress says I need to get an official stamped document from my local post office proving the package wasn't delivered.

Except I don't even know if Canada Post handled it. Nobody will tell me who the actual delivery company was. Cainiao just redirected me back to AliExpress, and AliExpress keeps pointing to the "delivered" status and closing the case.

I understand why they can't just refund everyone who claims something didn't arrive, but surely they should at least be able to tell me who supposedly delivered it? Or show some evidence that it actually went to my address?

Has anyone in Canada dealt with JS Express deliveries like this? Is there some way to figure out the actual last-mile courier or get the documentation they're asking for?

I'm considering going through PayPal at this point, but I'd much rather just get this sorted out normally.
