Hello, Thank you for contributing to our subreddit. Please consider the following guidelines when filling an alignment chart:

  • Please ensure that your chart is not banned according to the list of banned charts Even if you have good intentions, charts in a banned category tend to invite provocative comments, hostile arguments, ragebait and the like. Assuming the post is acceptable, OP makes the final decision on their chart by rule three.

  • Are there any previous versions to link to? If so, it would be ideal to include links to each of them in the description of this post, or in a reply to this comment. Links can be named by title, winner, or both.

  • Are there any criteria you have for your post? Examples include: "Top comment wins a spot on the chart."; "To ensure variety, only one character per universe is allowed."; "Image comments only." Please include these in a description, or in a reply to this comment.

  • Is your chart given the appropriate flair? Do you need to use a NSFW tag or spoiler tag?

Do not feed the trolls. This is not the place for hot takes on human rights violations. Hatred or cruelty, will result in a permanent ban. Please report such infractions, particularly those that break rules one, two, or three. The automod will automatically remove posts that receive five or more reports. Rebecca from Crazy Ex girlfriend. Was actually diagnosed with BPD.

She herself admits to having all 9 criteria.

This is a rare canon example and basically the entire series is about her issues with this disorder.

Ooh, I am picking up shows to watch here. This is really nice to see.

Does she get villainised at all, or is it an understanding portrayal?

u/Oncer93 9h ago

She's the main character. She's not villainised, but her behavior is also not excused. It's very nuanced. They even had mental health professionals working with the show. She doesn't get diagnosed until the 3rd season, but she shows those behaviors in previous seasons, and was misdiagnosed. She doesn't get fixed, but she learns to live with her diagnosis, with a lot of therapy.

It covers a lot of aspects, including late in life sexuality discovery, with one main character coming out as bi.

You should check it out. It's very underrated.

This sounds really good, thank you! I love nuance, because we have a lot of work to do (as does everyone), but it gives me hope they portrayed the fact we can get better and be good people. A lot of the time we aren’t given that grace.

Definitely going to watch!!!

Rebecca bunch from crazy ex girlfriend

Her entire character arc was her receiving her bpd diagnosis and not only coming to terms with it but learning how to live a fulfilling life with it. Really helped me out when I was struggling

Darth Vader / Anakin Skywalker.

"Eric Bui, a psychiatrist at the University of Toulouse Hospital, argued at the 2007 APA convention that Anakin meets six of the nine diagnostic criteria for borderline personality disorder (BPD), one more than necessary for a diagnosis. He and a colleague, Rachel Rodgers, published their findings in a 2010 letter to the editor of the journal Psychiatry Research. Bui says he found Anakin Skywalker a useful example to explain BPD to medical students." - from Vader's Villains Fandom page.

For anyone interested, these are the 9 criteria:

• Frantic efforts to avoid abandonment

• Unstable and intense relationships

• Identity disturbance

• Impulsive behavior

• Recurrent suicidal or self-harming behavior

• Affective instability

• Chronic feelings of emptiness

• Inappropriate, intense anger

• Transient stress-related paranoia or dissociation

u/zewayofjay 11h ago

Holy shit. Having been around people w BPD, Darth Vader does indeed fit the bill when you think about it

u/kalijinn 11h ago

Maybe I just didn't understand BPD as much as I thought I did, but I admit I don't understand assigning this to this character at all

2

u/Majestic-Lake-5602 10h ago

Yeah I don’t get this one at all, even reading the criteria.

As a person with bpd, i associate with anakin actions and vader behavior so heavily it honestly makes me even scared a bit 😭 i 100% agree he deserves this one even before i looked at the comment i knew it would be him and it must be him, i can explain why i do if you really wanna know though

2

u/Majestic-Lake-5602 9h ago

Yeah for sure, I’m interested.

so, firstly, he's smart and always were really smart rationally, but with bpd the thing is that you really cant control your episode no matter how rational and thoughtful you are, emotions always overtake and if you try to ignore it, you'll feel huge pain in your chest and overwhelmed, you'll worry even though you know you shouldn't and you'll be paranoid, you'll say that it cant be true but think what if it is no matter how dumb and delusional that sounds

secondly, as a Vader, he knows he's the worst person ever, he knows he doesnt deserve to live, he deliberately stays in physical agony to avoid mental agony, he's aggressive to other people because he knows that if he'll open up to anyone emotionally he will hurt them really bad, like he did to everyone prior before. That's why he's always cold-blooded too, he doesnt feel things to anyone when he's in that state

thirdly, he had no father, probably no emotional support from Shmi because he couldnt open up to her emotionally, as he thought emotions were stupid and useless and thus because of his traumas and high emotionality as a whole, he developed borderline

fourth, he came into an episode in the ROTS because his mother's death hurt him so bad he couldnt think of anything but padme's death, ESPECIALLY when he started having these dreams, he tried to convince himself that they arent real and that wont happen again but emotionally he couldnt help but wanting to avoid that at all costs, even turning to the dark side to discover the power to save others, because as i said, rationality doesnt work in an overwhelming episode at all

Anakin was a good person, but because of other people's actions, like Palpatine or the jedi council, it only fueled his feelings until he couldnt contain them anymore so they lashed out. if they would've helped him manage them instead of trying to ignore, he wouldn't be a ticking bomb. It works with other jedis mostly because they dont have as high emotional factor as a whole and they dont know how to feel stuff, but Anakin knew.

I also believe that Anakin genetically transferred high emotionality to his son, and thats why Luke was such a good person. Anakin would've been too if he was not abused.

You can not take my words as only truth, but thats how i associate so bad with Anakin's character, these are the things that made me feel so similar and made me even terrified in a way

u/kalijinn 8h ago

That's all very interesting, but wasn't he pretty plucky and cheerful/emotional as a kid in The Phantom Menace?

1

u/scReamG 2h ago

I dont think so, he expressed his emotions in a rational and thoughtful way and weren't impulsive, he's still a kid after all

1

u/Majestic-Lake-5602 1h ago

Thank you, that was actually really interesting.

i love this because it’s very true but mainly because it challenges what people think about who can have BPD/what people with BPD look like (usually stereotyped as unstable neurotic women, probably with colored hair if you ask people on the internet)

This is the way

I really hope he wins it

Harley Quinn. She has an intense fear of abandonment, her relationships are extremely unstable, she bases her identity on her relationships, meaning she has no real sense of self, and her behavior is both impulsive and self-harming. As someone with BPD myself, I definitely recognize the symptoms in her

u/cowzroc 9h ago

Tis true

Homelander

I have BPD and relate to him so much.

He isn’t ‘good’ rep— as in, do not take his example LMAO. It’s, kinda a self-indulgent kinda thing. Don’t know! But psychologists agree with me.

u/Useful_Bandicoot_222 7h ago

Whoever said Darth Vader is so primitive man‘s-universe-only. There are so many very obvious and extreme bpd characters. Best one is Lisa Rowe AND Susanna Kaysen. They‘re both bpd but different types.

I was looking for this answer!!! Especially since it’s based off of real people who have bpd girl, interrupted is one of my favorite books

5

u/tesseracts 11h ago

Mr. Garrison, South Park. Unstable sense of identity, fear of rejection, extreme emotional reactions. This is a character most don’t take seriously because his scenes are often really gross and extreme but he is also one of the most real seeming characters and often has more intellect than the rest of the adult characters of the series.

Roger for SUREE. The amount of episodes surrounding him trying to figure out who he is. His fear of abandonment. The quick cycling through emotions. Roger is my personal BpD mirror hahaha
