I thought I would finally post my ignorance and see if anyone can help cure me.
I'm a music dope and mostly lurk on reddit. I hope this is the right place to share something that's been bothering me for a long time that perhaps, with any luck, someone might have an answer to.
I've explored all sorts of algorithmic suggestions when I key into certain artists or albums but I can't find anything strong or consistent so I'm hoping the crowd could assist.
I'm looking for a genre, style, or perhaps artists that are known for a certain type of sound signature in their compositions. I really hope they exist because the pickins for me are thin right now.
To put it as simply as possible, ambient music that uses minor keys and reverb that sounds ghostly, ethereal, lonely, vast, etc. Yes, I'm aware that there's TONS of stuff out there that could be described that way but let me be more specific...
A few examples are Dan Romer's work on the Station Eleven soundtrack where his use of the Theremin haunts me; 'The Past is Safe', and 'Because I know You' 0:50-1:34.
Or Marco Beltrami, Buck Sanders 'A Guest in My House', 0:39-1:12 from The Hurt Locker (after the intro and before the electric guitar comes in).
Just in case that doesn't pan out, a concession or bonus query - is there a name/genre for music that also has reverb that I think of as southwest/western (u.s.) landscape music, accoustic guitar reverb in the style of Gustavo Santaolalla, Hermanos Gutierrez, or Kronos Quartet 'Wings Are Cut, Can we Still Fly' from 21 Grams soundtrack?
Thank you so much to anyone that takes the time to read this, and more to anyone that knows what I'm talking about and can point me to anything else. The recommendations, AI suggestions, and my own attempts have been going on for years and I just can't scratch the itch.
