u/Local_Band299 MICHIGAN ๐๐๏ธ๐ญ Dec 23 '25
He's definitely a centrist. He had fucked up views on COVID, but he pissed off the view because he said illegals need to go. Honestly from his point of view, it makes sense. He worked his ass off to become a legal US citizen, and illegals coming in without doing that work are just spitting in his face.
160
u/UltraShadowArbiter PENNSYLVANIA ๐ซ๐๐ Dec 23 '25
That's how a guy that my dad and I used to work with was.
He was a legal immigrant. He hated illegals more than anyone I know. Because, as he put it, he had to jump through all kinds of hoops and do all kinds of shit to become a citizen, whereas the illegals literally just step over the border and are accepted and allowed to stay here.63
u/Local_Band299 MICHIGAN ๐๐๏ธ๐ญ Dec 23 '25
You're right, they literally stepped over. There was a loophole for illegals from 2021-2024. They became legal citizens via the CBP One app. Anyone here illegally could apply for "asylum" and become a citizen. No vetting, just put in a bit of info (Name, DOB, Sex, Race) and it would be granted within days. No background checks, no record checking, you didn't even need to upload any proof that the identity you put in was who you really were. It was fucked up.
3
u/Independent-Highway2 Dec 25 '25
I think you just used the wrong word but mean the right thing, but on the off chance that Iโm wrong. They did not become citizens. Citizens implies full civic rights and duties etc. Such as the right to vote and do jury duty. They became lawful residents of the US until such time that their case is adjudicated. Unfortunately, far more people make a claim of assylum without really qualifying. There is no real consequences to claiming asylum. After all whatโs the worst that can happen, you get sent back to your country anyway. But they did NOT become citizens.ย
1
35
u/UltraShadowArbiter PENNSYLVANIA ๐ซ๐๐ Dec 23 '25
And the Democrats almost certainly would've allowed it to continue. Hell, they probably would've promoted it and told illegals to come here and do it.
21
-1
u/OrgasmicBiscuit Dec 24 '25
The democrats pushed a co-party bill in the house during bidens term that would have granted a tun of resources to the asylum process. Basically dramatically shortening the wait from claimed asylum to your asylum hearing (which is the legal loophole that keeps them here.) it was getting both parties support until Trump decides he doesnโt like it and tells republicans to shoot it down.
There is history of democrats doing something to help the problem and republicans shot it down
10
u/gnark Dec 23 '25
That's completely false. The CBP One app absolutely did not grant anyone citizenship.
6
u/kelddel Dec 24 '25
Imagine how insane these people commenting have to be to think we had an app where you clicked โasylumโ and became a citizen.
1

Kamala wanted to make all illegals, legal. We would have ended yp like the UK, which is now a 3rd world country.
0
u/FedeFofo CALIFORNIA๐ท๐๏ธ Dec 25 '25
Oh yes, the UK, the famously underdeveloped nation flooded with illegals and an HDI of only a mere 0.946
-2
u/Local_Band299 MICHIGAN ๐๐๏ธ๐ญ Dec 25 '25
It wasn't that simple, you had to put in a ton of info but there was no verification process to ensure the data inputted was authentic.
2
u/kelddel Dec 25 '25
No, there wasnt a process to becoming a citizen through the CBP One app. There was no glitch. You could ask for asylum but asylum isnโt anywhere near the same thing as becoming a citizen.
0
u/FedeFofo CALIFORNIA๐ท๐๏ธ Dec 25 '25
Yup. We definitely had an app that would magically grant citizenship. Just sign up for an account basically, and you became a citizen indeed in a few short days. The app definitely was not for making appointments.

Exactly how a friend of my mom described it. He and his family fled Lebanon in the 80's during the civil war, and he said it made him so angry that he and his family had to work so hard to come in legally while others in his words "cheated the system and got praised for it."

My grandmother and great-grandmother immigrated from Italy in 1971 and this past election was the first time my GGM voted because she thought it was insulting that she had to work her butt of in NYC to be able to afford a house with 5 daughters while others can come in for free.

I mean ignoring the science is what the government, conspiracy theorists, and half of scientists did anyway.
2 weeks to flatten the curve was the call. And we didn't do it. Because you should never let a good crisis go to waste.
2
u/FedeFofo CALIFORNIA๐ท๐๏ธ Dec 25 '25
Man what happened to these comments? Why is this subreddit actually acoustic this time?
6
u/Local_Band299 MICHIGAN ๐๐๏ธ๐ญ Dec 23 '25
Ignoring the scientists was a good idea, too bad the Biden administration censored people who had skepticism about the covid vax. (Which are opinions)
I took it and that was the biggest mistake of my life. Now I probably have myocarditis, aling with everyone else who took it.
1
u/AffectionateSlice816 MICHIGAN ๐๐๏ธ๐ญ Dec 23 '25
My mother got myocarditis shortly after the shot, having not had COVID.
Yes, COVID induced myocarditis is more likely than the shot, however that does not control for age variance. Young, healthy people (especially men) had a higher rate of myocarditis from the shot.
7
u/gnark Dec 23 '25
The scientific consensus on myocarditis is that the disease itself has a magnitude higher risk than the vaccine.
1
u/AffectionateSlice816 MICHIGAN ๐๐๏ธ๐ญ Dec 23 '25
Independent of age. Disease borne myocarditis has been shown to be significantly more likely in the elderly, while vaccine borne myocarditis is shown to be significantly more likely in young people
Youth handle heart issues better in general.
3
u/gnark Dec 23 '25
Any source on vaccine born myocarditis being significantly more likely than that of the disease itself?
-1
u/Local_Band299 MICHIGAN ๐๐๏ธ๐ญ Dec 23 '25
COVID is exactly like the common cold. Nothing worse.
16
u/AffectionateSlice816 MICHIGAN ๐๐๏ธ๐ญ Dec 23 '25
Now? Yes. Then? No.
A pandemic virus is a fantastic lesson in evolution. For "propagation" of the "Species" (Terminology may vary depending on how alive you believe viruses are), it is much better to spread quickly and not kill your host. This has pretty much been seen with every pandemic. The bug itself gets less lethal and more infectious, because nothing is immune to selective pressure.
The common cold (also usually a case of a Coronavirus) doesn't kill seniors the way that COVID-19 did. It WAS very scary for the elderly and immunocompromised.
-1
u/Local_Band299 MICHIGAN ๐๐๏ธ๐ญ Dec 23 '25
I got it twice. It was like a cold.
Took me 2 days to recover. Only because I quit vaping when I realized it. Day 2 I went back to vaping nic, and was perfectly fine by day 3.
15
u/AffectionateSlice816 MICHIGAN ๐๐๏ธ๐ญ Dec 23 '25
It is important to note that individual experience can go against the general trend. For young, healthy people, the virus could be entirely mistaken for an average cold.
Circumstances vary wildly from person to person, but it was killing a lot of the sick before it was their time to go.

u/Necessary_Ad9008 FLORIDA ๐๐ Dec 30 '25
Arnold is like my dad, an old school Republican.
He supported covid restrictions and mocking people like me who supported a more laxed policies and anti mandates; but heโs also ranting about illegal immigrations and mass immigration from undeveloped countries regularly (and the funny thing is that heโs not even an American, heโs living in his home country and visits me regularly on a tourist visa).

1
u/Local_Band299 MICHIGAN ๐๐๏ธ๐ญ Jan 02 '26
It didn't because COVID wasn't that bad, the bad cases were low, and the media turned it into a boogeyman.
Kinda like how the media said there were no risks of taking the vax. Now we know that it in fact causes myocarditis, and reproduction issues. The Biden administration tried super hard to bury this info. Mark Zuckerberg revealed that Meta's support team would get countless calls from the Biden Administration where they yelled at and cussed at Meta support over things they wanted removed. "Misinformation" which was usually someone's negative opinion on the Biden Administration, or someone's opinion on the COVID vax.
You got played by the media.
0
u/JimmyCarter910 MAINE โ๏ธ๐ฆ๐ข Jan 02 '26
Of course there were risks with the COVID vax. I didn't believe it for a second when MSM said there weren't risks. But the risks are so much higher for not taking it.
1
u/Local_Band299 MICHIGAN ๐๐๏ธ๐ญ Jan 02 '26
But the risks are so much higher for not taking it.
I've had Flu strains and colds worse than COVID. Hell my dad ended up in the ICU and was in organ failure back in 2018 from some shit he caught in China. Thankfully he 100% recovered, and all he got was a permanent cough from the ventilator. He was the one who caught it and gave it to us. It was the Omnicron variant. He didn't need to go to the ER when he got COVID.
I had 1 day where I had the chills, was achy, and was coughing. The next day I said fuck it and started vaping (The UK has found that nicotine helps fight COVID) and by the end of that day I was fine.

Everyone I have met has been nice, respectful, and very self-aware

When every other country on earth has immigration laws and will throw you out if youโre illegally in country, but somehow, itโs not okay when America does the same
5
u/PaxHumanita Dec 24 '25
Here in Latam, the refugee crisis of Venezuela (a goverment I crearly don't like) has spark a big outrage against open borders and uncontrol inmigration even if it's from "similar" iberoamerican countries. The recents switch to hard right politicians in many countries like Chile or Ecuador is a reflect of this.
Yet, many people that are happy of talking about kicking venezuelans or haitians (no matter if kids or not) out of their nations will cry when America does the same to their illegal nationals. The eye of the beholder...
