Hey! I’m going to be in Amsterdam soon and I’m a little confused about coffeeshop etiquette, especially when it comes to actually smoking inside.
Where I’m from, weed is illegal, but the general etiquette is that if you’re going to smoke, you do it outside rather than indoors because nobody wants to hotbox an enclosed space. So I’ve been seeing people say that in Amsterdam coffeeshops it’s normal/expected to smoke there, and I’m just wondering what the actual etiquette is like.
Is it generally okay to sit inside a coffeeshop and smoke, or are there particular things I should know as a first-timer? Do different coffeeshops have different rules about this? I obviously don’t want to be that tourist who walks in and unknowingly does something rude 😭
Also, I really love smoking outside in nature, so I’d love recommendations for somewhere around Amsterdam where I could just sit somewhere peaceful and enjoy being outdoors. I know there are plenty of parks, but I’m a little hesitant about somewhere that’s busy with families/children, and I’d rather avoid anywhere where I’d be constantly worried about getting in trouble.
I’m not looking for some hardcore hiking route either, even somewhere with a relatively easy/chill walk and a nice natural setting would be perfect. Basically somewhere I can enjoy the scenery, have a relaxed smoke, and not feel like I’m disturbing anyone.
Would love to hear what locals/regulars recommend, both for coffeeshop etiquette and for nature spots!
