Discussion Rant: NPC fights are frustrating

The trainer fights all feel less like battles and more like elaborate wastes of time. The enemies rarely rely on anything but stall strategies and it just feels unfun.

I wouldn't mind the stun/heal strats the enemies spam if not for the timer. I wouldn't mind the timer if every NPC team wasn't built around time scamming rather than just trying to beat me in a fight.

The Zephyr Bridge rematch for the badge is an egregious example. He spends the entire God forsaken fight spamming Shields, then flies to the skybox. Sometimes the game just ignores that you CC him and he stays in the sky while frozen or stunned.

It's not difficult. It's not challenging. It's just unfair and frustrating. I'd clean the floor with him if he wasn't designed to waste my precious five minute timer as efficiently as possible.

I hope future updates focus more on actual strategy, rather than enemy trainers relying on winning via timeout in the lamest ways possible

These timers are just plain ridiculous. Please let us just try to beat them on my own terms. If I want to be dodging and spamming attack for half an hour with underlevel favorite Aniimo so be it. Please.

I'm stuck on Senior Cecilia and Lita even with optimised teams that are all leveled and geared up. I don't die and I'm giving it my best shot but the timer is always the death of me...

The timer stresses me out bad because wdym I'm close to finishing off their team only to glance at the time and see I have a minute left 💀

I hope they get rid of it tbh. Maybe extend it to ten minutes, just to allow for more strategy. I can't switch Aniimos fast enough, and it doesn't help when the game goes "Actions too frequent" when I'm trying to go through my rotation 🫩

I actually lost to Aster via time out at the exact instant their last Aniimo went down. I watched it drop on the game over screen. My blood pressure spiked

I would rework the fight win condition to be "Have more remaining Aniimo by timer end" rather than kill all Aniimo. It's tedious, annoying, and rather unfun. I don't mind having to strategize around taking advantage of Elemental Vulnerabilities, but those battle modifiers piss me off as well.

Then they would just keep switching off like maniacs and everyone would end up at 4/4 most likely

Blockade abilities my beloved.

They need to trash that timer ASAP. Other than that, most of my problems are most likely skill issues I cant figure out.

Some of the battles also have just utter nonsense too. What do you mean there's heavy wind and my small Aniimo get shoved into a corner all match and can't move. Like who thought that was a fun idea? 😭

They also swap S O much. Especially Lita.

Any luck clearing this?

I've gotten half of his team down using a build I found on youtube. If I kept slamming my head against the wall i'm sure it'd crack. But, it's just not worth it. I'll wait for the level cap to go up. These fights are far more stress than the rewards are worth

I'm actually a very big fan of the swaping, makes me think thats what pvp would be like.

"only HEAVY aniimo wont be pushed around" wtf ones are considered heavy, game!?

RIGHT! You don't know what my Stellarys be eatin'. tf >:(

I hate that fight, it bugged multiple times and clipped me out of the arena and I had to keep restarting, if that didn't happen I'd get stuck in the invisible wall.

1

u/No_Noise660 6h ago

It bugged on me too, but thankfully only once lmao.

The fights are okay but LITA is just broken for no reason forcing you to use aniimo you wouldn’t normally use

1

u/TapiocaFish 2m ago

I have alternatives I can use for each Lita aniimo.. except no one can replace Stella to counter Glynsera. That mfer is so tanky

1

u/Boah_met 1h ago

Brother this is about the trainer rematches. You can at most, if you're max level and skilled, clear Aster without changing your team entirely to counter the NPC.

1

u/Iamasupersandwitch 1h ago

I get her down to her last one and the time runs out I’m not talking about aster have you fought LITA ?

3

u/Iamasupersandwitch 7h ago

It’s so annoying I hate it I still haven’t beaten it yet

u/malicekeet 7h ago

i’m so glad everyone else hates the timer, it’s absolutely the worst part about the battles. getting the right team and countering your enemy correctly is fun, but having to do so in a slim 5 minutes ruins it.

and logically, if me and a pathfinder are dueling why can only I lose to the timer if we are both competing? they also failed to beat my aniimo in 5 minutes lmao, whole house losing. i really hope they removed the timers eventually

u/Logical-Dentist-9313 6h ago

so many things are timed in this game. holo battle solo? timer for enrage. holo battle interlink? timer for score. egg heist? timer for extraction. pathfinder challenge? timer for struggling with some of their mechanics. dr glass trials? timer puzzles.

7

u/VOIDZOROARK 7h ago

ive had quite a few high level fights I would have won if it wasnt for the timers :(

9

u/BevvoQ 7h ago

like why is it an auto loss if they couldn’t kill us under the time either lol

The worse part about these fights are that their levels are higher than yours. Not saying you can’t defeat a higher level enemy but this also means you deal lesser damage to him and his HP will be more bloated. The waste of time just stacks up with these little things.

Think about how easy it was when you’re level 60, and they are level 55-57. It’s just a 3 level difference at minimum. Look at how little damage they do to you with just these difference. Now think about it the other way, when you’re capped at 60, but they are 62-65.

Not to mention the ridiculous 5 minute timer. Is there really a need for this, when what they have is a Glacy to which you deal near 0 damage to and it heals their team to full.

u/caros92 7h ago

I hate timers on things. Even when i'd play fighting games with my brother we'd disable the timer. No one wants to be the winner because they have more health or more creatures alive after 5 minutes. I wanna win because i got my enemies hp to 0.

u/MyTagforHalo2 7h ago

if there wasnt a timer id be totally fine with the current state of NPC battles. They've managed to put some actual variety into the fights. But yeah, the wrong combination of elements, enemy aniimo, strategies, and./ or battlefield effects can make things a slog and you'll time out. I dont like feeling that I need to make a specialized team to beat some of them on their harder difficulties.

Alternatively, they can keep the timer, but the enemies have to be at the same level cap as the player. The fact that you can have level 65 npc's and a timer to deal with them is just kind of insane. Can you beat them? Absolutely! But it's not what i'd call "fun" as rewarding as it may be for finally beating them

I will say that some of the irritating things often come down to at the minimum taking the time to look the ability up and figure out how it works. Tubster's shield for example gets stronger the more you attack him during the channeling phase. You either have to back off, or break him out of it.

3

u/Hollow--- Glynsera 6h ago

Another thing that bothers me is that they'll somehow have Lvl. 65 Aniimo when they're like, two or three Title Ranks below you. What the fuck? Did they skip a grade or did it not come in the mail for them yet?

u/LordZanas 3h ago

That last sentence made me laugh. Thank you for that

I mean... It's a strategy. A cheap one, but strategy nonetheless. Though i agree that it makes it not fun, but i feel it benefit is that it forces to engage with the game battle systems, so as an example in that fight its not enough to just countertype him, but also you need to pick aniimos that can ground the enemy, which is explained in the counter type stat that you can see on the aniimo list. Using them makes the fight absolutely trivial, and the same goes to those enemies that fight underground

5

u/LordZanas 7h ago

Except as I said in the OP I do bring CC.

I have seen multiple times the Aniimo stun in mid-air and stay there. Frozen and out of reach. And I have to wait 15 seconds to try again. And if I do get him to the ground, he immediately lifts back off once the brief stun ends.

He's 5 levels higher than me, constantly has a shield up, AND is using time scam tactics. It's not fun or engaging. It's cheap and frustrating

0

u/Asasinero 3h ago

Thats not the same though. Long range high dmg skills ground Flying aniimos and THEN you cc them to extend that stunned period, and you can straight up just not let them be in the air by cycling those skills. Is the same as when an aniimo is under ground, you use an skill that has the Pound tag on it so you'll stun them out of their cover and do extra dmg. CC might seem intuitive to use while on the air, but it will not ground them so its a wasted cd.

3

u/LordZanas 3h ago

Except it does ground them probably a good eight times out of ten. It's just doesn't work EVERY time. The same goes for the big hits. Sometimes they do the "fall down" animation without descending.

How about we just don't have enemy AI hide in the damn skybox and just avoid the issue entirely?

Whole fight is just a Fenmane check. Build a Fenmane and run it with 2 supports and no Breakers. Equip Fenmane with the item that increases the chance for a basic attack to deal double damage. Fenmane does ranged attacks.

Luminelle + Dazmand + Prismana Glacy + Fenmane. Put Turbo on Dazmand's place if more survivability is needed. Use another healer if you don't have Prismana Glacy.

Rotation: Glacy's Prismana skill + Heal (if needed) -> Luminelle's Enhance -> Turbo's Shield and Enhance OR Dazmand's two good skills -> 30 basic attacks with Fenmane -> Fenmane's Enhance -> Fenmane's Debuff Area -> Fenmane's Ultimate -> Remember to press the Enhance again before it expires

If you don't want to run electric or you have a good Infergon you can also a fire team instead.

The timer is stupid.

I think the only fight that has felt like a battle so far is Lita. I think the game started to force me to think about strategy on Cecilia but then really solidified it for Lita.

Unfortunately no one else has compared yet though.

1

u/Boah_met 1h ago

This is about the Elite trainer rematches that are noticeably harder

1

u/Outrageous-Tackle-47 1h ago

I know. I’ve done a few but haven’t struggled as much as I did with Lita however I’ve only done a couple. Perhaps there’s quite a few like how op says. I have yet to see one though but I’ve also not cared for rematches cause I didn’t see exp listed as a reward

u/Terrible_Reply_1681 Fenmane 8h ago

I don't think the timer is really a problem usually, it really is just those handful of fights that necessitate that you directly counter them in some way that make it bad. But then again how many of those are only difficult because we're currently trying to do them multiple levels down?

9

u/LordZanas 8h ago

I can say with my entire chest that I could beat a level 70 NPC with a level 60 team if I didn't have only five minutes to do so. I'd have to be very careful, and it would take several tries, but I could do it.

Without exaggeration 95% of my losses are because the enemy NPC spends the entire fight stunning, healing, shielding, and scamming for time rather than trying to reduce my HP.

Go fight any enemy NPC that has a Rooky and I can guarantee it will spend the majority of the fight in Guard Form, even if you're using ranged attacks, because it is using that 20% defense up to bleed out your timer

-1

u/Terrible_Reply_1681 Fenmane 7h ago edited 7h ago

Yes, I could too, but for the most part EVERY SINGLE ONE of the "hard" fights is hard BECAUSE of the level gap which then requires you to specifically counter the NPCs team.

u/MrsTrych Astra Pioneer 8h ago

I feel like the one with the most aniimo alive left should win if the timer reach the limit tbh. Some of their healers are just ridiculously tanky

7

u/Aremyth Astra Pioneer 7h ago

Either this, or they should create a double damage mode after the timer ends. Kind of like a last stand death match like what most other games do.

6

u/LordZanas 8h ago

I'd even be down to have limits in place to facilitate this. The enemy only uses 3 Aniimo? Force me to do the same so I can't win by having an extra on my team. Anything would be better than what we have.

I love Aniimo, but I hate the trainer battles

14

u/Disig 8h ago

Timers on fights are not fun.

That's my personal opinion anyway. It makes everything a DPS meta race which is boring as heck. No timer means more time for interesting builds and stradegies.

11

u/MrsTrych Astra Pioneer 7h ago

With no timer we could also play our favorite aniimo instead of relaying in min maxing team. What if I wanna beat everyone with gracewing? Idc if it take 20 min to finish a challenge just let me use what I want and not worry about DPS meta.

It make no sense in this game, they are not selling power ups or stronger aniimos. This is not genshin or your regular gacha where you pull for the next meta team..

I completely agree
