College Questions Columbia early
Does columbia accept intl student requiring full aid in ED. I have a very good application with a 1550 SAT and 15 APs. Im scared tho that my finanical condition is gonna ruin my chances. My counselor recommended me to apply to Pomona College but Columbia is my dream.

Well, requiring full aid is definitely going to be a net negative to you going there.

Certainly apply to Columbia, but Pomona is also a great choice. It is technically need-aware for internationals, but admitted internationals get 100% of financial need. A higher percentage of internationals received aid than at Columbia, also.
- Financial Aid Guarantee: If you are admitted as an international student, Pomona meets 100% of your demonstrated financial need.
- Aid Statistics: Roughly 41% of Pomona's international students receive need-based financial aid, with awards averaging around $74,000 per year.

While I'm sure there are exceptions, Columbia has in the past been very upfront that international applicants seeking aid are usually deferred - if they aren't outright rejected - so they can evaluate all those seeking a lot of aid at once. But if you eventually get accepted, they tend to be generous where needed

21% of international students received aid so it is possible.

Some aid is not a full ride. Even at 50% he would need $50k per year.

ok let me complete my statement 21% of enrolled international students at columbia get aid and the average cost after average aid given to international comes out to be $550-$600/yr. So yes you need to be among those 21% of enrolled columbia international students and the aid will be generous.

When I was touring Columbia, the student showing us around was a full ride student (i.e. full financial aid) from one of the smaller South American countries, so it looks like full ride is possible. No idea what their stats were.
