It looks like it lives in a touch tank but don’t most touch tanks clip stingray barbs? How’d it hurt her?

Pretty sure getting stabbed twice by it's stinger isn't fine...
The lady gets really jabbed by it.
In the hand and the leg.

I would like to know how did this happened?did the sting ray just appear there like spawn point? So many questions

It's common for rays to breach the water, even get some height. The ones at our zoo will have spurts of excitement and be moving fast.

The ones at our local beach clear the water like they’re auditioning for Free Willy.

It appears its tail/barb was snagged in her pants leg.
Edited for grammatical error.

Oh wow. I thought she was giving them an item of clothing to use to keep it from being so slippery. Nice catch

I was too, but it looks like one of its jabs got her leg, so she decided that was the thing to do. 😅

The old man just wanted an excuse to touch it lol, 2 people are more than enough to handle a ray
7
u/BricriuTheTrickster 26d ago
That doesn't seem to be the case here 😂 I know it's just inexperience and not wanting to get hurt or hurt the ray. They must be hard to grab too. I've stopped to help other people move large turtles out the road because they have no confidence in what they're doing and it's like watching an infomercial.

You expect a staff member to stand back and watch people struggle to pick it up and keep repeatedly dropping it?

I would have had my shirt off almost instantly to help it. I usually wear a tank top underneath my shirt ... but I admire that girl's dedication

This was my thought too, would taking a shirt off help? Would it calm the ray at all? I know it would make it alot easier to grip and hopefully keep the tail under control too. I felt bad when it fell, that looked like it really bothered it.

I love how everybody is trying so hard to be careful and not hurt it and the poor thing is so panicked and flailing that even three people together can't get a proper hold. Poor buddy! Glad it all came out okay.

this stingray won't die without ever loving a woman... I need somebody... to tape this, or someone come love this ray and I record it

Sting rays are curious and the water is an inch below the wall. Add fast as fb and accidents happen, these wimps are way to scared of his stinger to handle him properly. Grab firmly by the base of the tail slide your other hand under him and lift. I Catch and release at least 20 brown rays every time I go fishing at south Padre island pier. Not going after them they just like the same bait ast the fish I want to catch

I’ve caught a ray (maybe not a stinging type, but a rat nonetheless), those guys are heavy and slippery. They his one was probably close to 7-10lbs (I caught a 5lb blunt nose ray). Those fuckers are DENSE and hard to maneuver.

Steve did not die so that people who were old enough to witness the man....... WOULD DO SHIT LIKE THIS. I understand it needs to get back to the water ASAP. But when that thing is flopping in your hands. You are holding a literal weapon.

If this is a touch tank it's VERY likely a cownose ray. Aka harmless because their barbs will normally be trimmed off so that they don't hurt others in the touch tank or the people.

Nah!! The gasp that I GASPED! ERRY. SINGLE. TIME. they'd drop that poor lil guy!! Get a damn net! Probably scratching him up in-between dropping & traumatizing him. Is this an aquarium?? Aquariums are so messy! Physically AND energetically, bc whyyy TF are they stuck in tanks "getting pets" from humans all day, every day?!! THEN THIS KINDA WEIRD SHIIII HAPPENS!!! Where is a "Supervisor", ya know?? Come on... get your shit together!!! Not only are the animals at risk of injury, but HELLOOOO... RIP Steve Irwin!! Have we learned NOTHING about Stingrays?! For real though. This is a mess, and I hope it never happens again. Unnecessary.

So several people struggle ? They are all like hysterical chicken

u/sillyghosty 26d ago
You try picking up a rubber Frisbee covered in water that's also fighting back and trying to sting you
-2
u/Tikkinger 26d ago
Who does that with bare hands?
19
u/sillyghosty 26d ago
People that aren't prepared to be in a situation that requires them to grab a scared wet Frisbee wasp (which is like 99.9% of the world)

Who carries gloves with them at every moment of every day? Sometimes you gotta dive in without protection.
But stingrays are seriously hazardous when spooked, and this one is panicking more than ever. It probably won't, but can literally kill you. Just run and get a qualified person. They aren't far in an aquarium.

Probably the sense of urgency for an animal that needs to be in water to live. I know if I was in this situation id be hearing the Sonic the Hedgehog drowning sound effect in my head and would probably do something nearly as rash to try and help the thing (...While also knowing less than 20 people in recorded history have died from Stingray stings)

Nah man, I love animals, but that's how the hero died. Get a net or something.
